accepting that kind of money is not the issue here. what is at question is how ridiculously ungrateful many athletes are for being so completely overcompensated for doing something most of us can't even find the time to do.
To whom should they be grateful? Should I be grateful for having a "good" job, when people are starving around the world? Probably, but to someone in the media? Is it different if they don't enjoy playing football?
You were sitting there talking bad about USC and saying he was a "USC piece of crap" because of his statement. It is obvious you don't know how the combine works. You also said "who does this kid think he is?" Just admit you were wrong and didn't know how the combine worked...It is obvious you had no idea about individual workouts and the fact that they occur every year with a lot of different players...
Let's see. Athletes make a minimum of what? 1 million per year? You know he'll get more than that. Firemen, Policemen, and Paramedics earn alot less. Let me ask you, if your house is on fire, who do you call? If someone is trying to break into your house, or rape your daughter, who do you call? If you have a heart attack, who do you call? Do you call an athlete?
You're missing his point. His point is that if millions of people paid $20 each to watch firefighters put out fires, firefighters would make millions. They would also be the ones in the commercials. It's all about what we the people are willing to pay to watch and it just so happens that people enjoy watching sports...So they pay $20 each to see a sporting event, they buy the shoes that athletes promote...and thus the athletes make the money. Whether that, in a general sense is right isn't really what he is saying...He is just making a point about what the market supports..
actually you may be on to something. i'd pay to watch a good firefight over many other sporting events. saints football, tulane anything, wnba.
Blame people the world over. We place a fairly high premium on entertainment, and are fairly selective about what we find entertaining. Not too many people fit the bill, and like Dallas says, just add up the money we're willing to spend. Now to answer your question, if someone is trying to break into my house or rape my theoretical daughter, I don't know if I'd call an athlete, but I certainly would have some of 'em as my prime suspects! :hihi:
You might want to learn more about Capitalism. It isn't too hard to make more than a fireman, policeman, teacher, etc... If a policemen, teacher, etc.. in Denver doesn't have a direct effect on your well-being, then he's just like any other avg. joe. He doesn't even make blimp on your radar screen, and his salary will reflect. However, Jake Plummer flicks off the Denver crowd and he's all over the news, message boards, espn.com, etc.. You can just feel the magnitude
