He can showcase his skills just as easily in an individual workout. And he did run at the Combine (disappointing 4.6 range.)

Why the hatred towards Williams? As with Saban, I don't understand the bad feelings. And he'll be getting quite a nice life very soon. After all, we're the ones on the message board!

well...for one, the jerk should be happy that he's just getting a chance to play pro ball. demanding your own, isolated work out, is now way to be grateful for his opportunity. as you said, very soon he will have a nice life, getting paid ENTIRELY too much money for playing ball. seems to me like that's not quite enough for him.

second, the way he tried to jump ship for the NFL early still has me a bit peeved. moreoever, he and his coach had the nerve to b!tch and cry nonstop when it was ruled (rightfully so) that he could not be reinstated in the NCAA. hey buddy, you took a (stupid) chance, and you knew what was on the line. you have absolutely NO right to whine about it.

third, amidst all the BCS controversy last year, he responded to a press question about LSU having a higher strength of schedule than usc by saying "LSU? yeah, i think they've been in some pretty tough sorority pillow fights". the ignorant SOB didn't even think to acknowledge that we played 2 of the same teams, beating each by a greater margin than they did.

1 -- I doubt Williams will be paid entirely too much money. I strongly suspect he'll be paid his market value, just like every other employee in the U.S.

2 -- He shouldn't have been reinstated, I agree. But I don't fault him for following a lower court ruling and trying to do what was in his best interests.

3 -- We should be the last people to point fingers about some innocent trashtalking. Who cares what he thinks, anyway?

Mike Williams will get endorsements up the wazoo and if he plays well will get that huge contract in 2-3 years.

    1) "market value" in pro sports is still entirely too much money!

    2) i'll never support athletes trying to leave before their time. that aside, the sobfest that ensued was pathetic and hate-inducing

    3) i don't care what he thinks. but i do care that he lacked class to the point where he'd say something so completely asinine. i didn't hear any of our players make any such comments.

That just doesn't make any sense. I'll never understand the "they make too much money argument," when clearly they're only being paid what the market will support. But, this is a whole different discussion...

Were it not for asinine statements, there would be little reason to interview players at all on such matters. I'm glad our guys didn't say such things (to my knowledge anyway.) You can see how that translates to professional success (e.g. the Patriots.) But, nevertheless, I can't get all bent out of shape and hate a guy b/c he talked some foolishness. Again, I wouldn't be interested in their comments if they were always rehearsed, safe, and non-humorous.

It's obvious some of you guys don't understrand how the combine works. We are lucky guys like Mike Williams(and by "guys" I mean top 10 picks) even show up to the combine. Most of these top prospects hold "pro days" which are private days where scouts come and scout them on the 40, vertical, route running,etc...Only, unlike the combine, it is just them and the individual player.

So you guys need to reevaluate your "USC theory" there and remember that pretty much all these top guys( Alex Smith, Mike Williams, Benson, etc) all have private workouts where they are the ONLY prospect there. So when he says "I" or "me," he isn't being selfish, he is referring to his own, private workout which several players ever year hold...And btw, if LSU, for instance, had the top Quaterback at the draft, he would hold his own private workout day and no one would be saying sh!t...

    So calm down guys...

LSU even has a pro day! GASP! Of course, it's also on the same day as Wisconsin and OU, so Spears is probably none too happy about that. And that could be why he was at the Combine. You know, Spears is going to be making "entirely too much money" too. What a jerk, huh? Or does it not work that way?

dallas, that doesn't mean i agree w/ it just b/c other players do it. however, most of them have not done other things that MW has to get on my bad side.

look, i understand how revenues and markets function, ok? but that will never change the fact that i believe pro athletes are insanely overpaid for the "work" that they do.

bent out of shape? its not like i punched a hole in a wall or anything. honestly, outside of the few comments i've posted here, i've devoted essentially no energy to disliking this fellow. fact is, you insult the tigers, you are on my bad side...end of story.

no, it does not. MS is an intelligent, classy individual who will soon be ridiculously overpaid. but just keep missing the point and having your mike williams lovefest...doesn't bother me.

This is a societal issue. Heck, actors are waaaaaaaaay overpaid, $20 million for a crappy movie, but you never hear people whining about Tom Cruise making that kind of cash. CEO's are paid way too much when it's the little man doing the work. The CEO I work with makes 20x what I do, but in a free market society I don't blame anyone for getting paid as much as someone is willing to give them. I don't know anyone who if offered more than what they are currently making would say - "No, I can't accept this. It's more than what I'm worth and plus it's 10 times what Susie the receptionist is making and that's just not right!" Look, when A-Rod was given $250 million by Tom Hicks everyone was like - No ballplayer is worth that. That may be true but if some idiot (aka Tom Hicks) is willing to give him that then I think he's smart for garnering that much. Plus, it also broadens the market for others.
