How has Michael Clayton done in Tampa Bay? He wasn't that fast or tall, but he was a very good character guy with good hands.

MC was almost rookie of the year in 2004 yet struggled with injuries since. i read this awhile back. pretty good article on chuckie and mike. the make-a-wish foundation qb rotation certainly hasnt helped.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Michael Clayton just might be too tough for his own good.

Like a prizefighter who brushes off a standing eight count, the third-year receiver sometimes might not know when enough is enough, and his every-down, all-out mentality has taken its toll on Clayton’s body over the past two years.

That was essentially the assessment of Buccaneers Head Coach Jon Gruden last week when asked about Clayton, who finished the 2006 season with 33 catches for 356 yards and one touchdown and spent the last month on injured reserve.

“I talked to Mike a little bit about his style of play,” Gruden said. “[It] is really affecting his durability and his health. We have to take a real good look at how Mike is going to play the game and be able to stay healthy for 16 weeks and continue to get better. He is a fierce competitor, an explosive, physical man. But some of the piles that he gets into, wideouts just don’t get into.

After seeing his production decrease sharply in 2005 due to nagging injuries and offseason knee surgery, Clayton had hoped to rebound from with a strong 2006 campaign that more closely resembled the numbers of his a record-setting rookie campaign in 2004.

That year, Clayton set team records for a rookie receiver, tallying 80 catches for 1,193 yards and seven touchdowns. Those numbers weren’t just high by Buccaneers standards; they were noteworthy in NFL annals. Clayton’s rookie season ranks as one of the five most prolific performances for a first-year wideout in league history.

He was also team captain his 1st year at Tampa, that shows he is a leader. Sophmore year jinx got him. He will be back.

The jinx got him in the second year, he did fairly better in his 3rd if i remember correctly.

about the same so cant blame the jinx but we can blame the qb and the offensive guru's genius in little chuckie doing nothing since winning the superbowl with dungie's personnel.
