Don't know the F1 situation, but in both of the IndyCar deaths, the open cockpit was a direct factor.
I don't know if a canopy would have saved Wheldon, the way he hit that pole. The canopy might have killed him at that speed and force.
Then you start adding weight, at that point you are a few fenders away from Nascar III (since we already have Busch or whatever they call the JV these days)
It would still be open wheel racing and the cars would look about the same but with an aerodynamic canopy. Now Indy cars weigh about 1500 pounds compared to NASCAR at 3500. If you add 200 pounds they are still going to be almost as fast but safer for the drivers. I don't really care to watch open wheel. A few years ago Marco Andretti was leading the Indy 500 on the last lap when Sam Hornish came roaring up behind him. Andretti moved aside to let Hornish pass unchallenged. Can you imagine Tony Stewart ever getting out of somebody's way and not doing everything he can to block the pass?
Ex-NBA star Darryl Dawkins, aka 'Chocolate Thunder' has died Was one of my favorite players back then. He talked about being from the Planet Lovetron. I hope he goes back http://news.yahoo.com/ex-nba-star-darryl-dawkins-aka-chocolate-thunder-193758094--spt.html
Actor Kyle Jean-Baptiste, who made history as the first African-American to play the lead role in a Broadway production of "Les Miserables," died Friday night in New York. Marc Thibodeau, a spokesman for the production, said Saturday that Jean-Baptiste fell from a fire escape. What a shame. That was one talented dude with a huge future ahead of him.
