i dunno if anything can ever be done about these things. periodically people just flip out and go on a rampage.

of course we can blame his religion, which i am happy to do. perhaps one tiny thing we can do is convince each other to not be religious.

That isn't a strip club, its a sale barn. There is more cattle in there than out on the open range at fort hood. Geez this guy really was a nut job.

I can neither confirm nor deny how I happen to know this information.

It seems like he was also making statements that could make people question his loyalty and his sanity.

There's a lot of political correctness in the military. Many commanders just don't want to ruin their careers kicking a nutjob like this out if he's not actually DONE anything.

It's not right. But there are a lot of losers still in uniform because it's really hard to get them kicked out and it can also be dangerous to a commander's career, depending on who the guy is and what kind of publicity he may be able to dredge up on his way out.

For every brave commander that boots out a nutjob, there are 5 who kick the can.

Yup, you pretty much give em all up when you sign on the dotted line. And yet somehow that is still conveniently forgotten. Kinda like how people forget this is an all volunteer force.

A very sad truth. PC is killing us. I'm not even going to go into the implications of repealing "don't ask, don't tell"...

Thats a tough one. I can't say for sure if I have ever served with anyone that was a pickle kisser. I don't think so. I guess that is what the policy is all about. Because I never knew, I couldn't form a bias against them. I know when I was on the trail we would have a private or two that would claim they were queer just to get out of basic training. I seem to be drawing a mental blank but it would seem that life may have gotten pretty hard on them after that. Of course, just like the starz club at fort hood, I can neither confirm nor deny that I had anything to do with making life hard on them because that would be just wrong. To answer your question of if it should be replealed, I would say 1. As long as they can shoot, move and communicate (IOW, be an effective soldier) than ok. 2. As long as they don't cause any disruption in the unit which I don't think would happen. I know very little about pickle kissers but I assume they don't run around trying to kiss everyones pickle. 3. The rest of the soldiers would have to be able to look past that stuff and accept them as equal. That in my opinion would be the show stopper.

We could quit trying to appease the entire muslim world, admit we are at war and start acting like it. And yes, you can get kicked out of the army for aiding and abetting the enemy, which is what this guy was doing.

Weeding the military of muslims is both impractical and unconstitutional. Muslims are not the problem anyway--muslim fanatics are the problem. Fanatics in any religion are a problem. Christian fanatics terrorized each other in Ireland for decades and now they kill doctors and bomb clinics here. Jewish fanatics, Hindu fanatics, even Mormon fanatics have committed terrorism.

The military (and society in general) should be seriously looking at ways to detect and deal with fanaticism. There were clear signs that this kook was a fanatic and it shouldn't have made any difference if he was a Muslim or a Navajo if he makes statements about "his people" fighting the United States. Get these guy out of the army, into a serious mental evaluation, and straight to the looney bin with them.

But Muslim fanatics are the ones trying to kill us. As long as "good" muslims look the other way while their fanatical bretheren rant and preach jihad, I say F em all.
