Not sure about the field goal rule. Seems like they are trying to take excitement out of game. https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/important-rules-changes-2017/
Under the equipment section it says protective equipment has to be covered by the pants. What about those big knee braces a lot of offensive linemen and other players wear who are protecting an injured knee? Or am I missing something?
I think you are missing something. I think external devices are going to be okay (ie braces) the pads that fit inside the pants are what I think they are talking about. I think this will also require a redesign of the uniform because the pants they wear now just aren't going to stay down the way the rule states it has to
Nope. Says no protective equipment worn outside of pants. That would mean knee braces need to be covered. Probably seen as a cte concussion weapon now.
.....the migration of the bottom of the pants from covering the knee, to rising to the middle of the knee, to now well above the knee primarily for many receivers and defensive backs has been obvious the past several years..... "Now they look like shorts," (an official) said. "We don't want to have shorts there. At the same time, more importantly, it's a safety issue." "I always play like this," (one player) said, looking at his knees, which were showing, the bottom of the pants tucked up with the knee pad at the base of his thigh. "I'm not really comfortable with the kneepads actually on my knees."... "Plus, it's a swag thing." "We're not going to throw the flag. We're going to send you out of the game and you will not be playing if your knee isn't covered with a pad," http://www.athleticbusiness.com/rules-regulations/new-ncaa-rule-may-require-football-kneepads.html I couldn't find any mention of knee braces
The pants thing, I really don't understand their thinking. Wouldn't it make it a lot harder to run from the law?
