I just got done writing about this in my blog, so I figured I'd come here to discuss while it was still fresh. The Saints looked real good today. Really, really good. They finally decided that if playing coverage gets you beat that you might as well just blitz.
They definitely looked better but I'd temper my enthusiasm until they play a team where the QB has wide receivers as an option. Then again, the combination of a pass rush along with no Jason David seemed to work wonders. Is it me or was Brando overly harsh in his criticism of Devery Henderson?
Yeah, I don't get that. Yes, Devery has had dropsies in games, but that one was not a drop; it was jarred loose, just like Marques Colston's near TD in the game. Brando kept on harping on that play. My bet is that he had that response prepared before the game and was waiting for any little reason to use it. I give Devery a pass on that one, for sure. It's when he's open and drops the ball that I get pissed at him since I am an LSU and Saints fan and want LSU guys to be highly successful at the next level.
While I think Denver's offense is going to obliterate us, I'm still reserving judgment on the secondary. I really think the secondary has made some improvements. Injuries had a lot to do with how bad the secondary looked against Washington. We had 3 starters hurt in our secondary for that game, and several backups at that. I was a bit concerned that we didn't seem to have as much of a pass rush in that game as we did against Tampa, however.
