It's a statue man, statues and monuments are harmless. It's a staunch reminder. Why not take those dollars spent on taking down these monuments and buy a few computers for local schools or some new textbooks. This is a waste of money and it's not going to change 1 thing.

Do you really think Robert E. Lee is a racist symbol? Really? Do you really?

Robert E Lee was a slave owner like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and countless other Americans who won't have their monuments and statues torn down. Robert E Lee probably would have fought for the Union had they not decided to invade Virginia. In a letter to his wife he wrote "slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil in any country".

The statue was located at Lee Circle. Are they going to call it Spike Lee Circle now?

If there is anybody out there who wants to get the pictures of George Washington and Andrew Jackson out of their wallets I'll be glad to take them off your hands.

Yes, and I'm certainly not alone on that.

Probably? Yes or no, it's beside the point. How Lee felt about slavery is not how he acted and is certainly not the reason that others erected a statue commemorating his treasonous fight.

So then are you for tearing Washington's face off of Rushmore? Changing the name of Washington and any place named Jefferson? Even me, a liberal sees that as a gigantic pussy move. Cry me a river.

Neither Washington nor Jefferson fought against the USA for the propagation of slavery. Remember how you just recently said Lee "probably would not have fought" against the USA? Well, actions speak louder than words, and it's far more probable that Washington and Jefferson would not have done so.

The Lee statue was erected as a giant "fuck you" to the USA, as in the South's cause was right. Well, I see no sense in keeping that malicious, racist, and erroneous statement eternal. Taking it down is the proper answer.

So, owning slaves is ok, but fighting an invading army into your home state not ok. Gotcha, I guess it didn't occur to you that some of the rebel generals saw the Union as a tyrannical government.
