i agree with that b/c a DB if they felt they were going to be beat could just tackle the WR to save himself. The face mask rule if correctly imposed by officials should be a good rule
I was under the assumption the incidentals wouldn't be called. If it's 15 for everything then that is an atrocious rule.
Thank Texas for that one but I like it. They shouldn't have to give a warning and it's not only a potential game changer but a safety issue. That's true with every one, not only with the new ones. I'd like to see pass interference a spot foul. The way it is, the defense has a huge advantage when you can save a 40 yard TD for only 15 and a fresh set of downs. I know I'd DIE the first time it went against LSU though, and moved an opponent into the red zone.
The only one I like is the extra challenge:huh: to the rest. Hey maybe they are trying to speed up the game and elminate half of the plays so that they can institute a playoff system when I die of old age!:insane:
now we are getting somewhere. wow, these NCAA committee people are just plain absurd. the only rule change to make sense is to give that extra challenge. based on Les' ability to correctly challenge all calls seemingly, that is advantage LSU.
I also read it as the 5 yard face mask will no longer be called. The thing to watch for now is, how many are going to be called that in the past would have been "incidental" but will now end up being the 15 yard variety? I'm willing to bet that some flag happy ref's will muck this up more times than they get it right!!! Any takers?
2 other important rules have also been proposed. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/ncaa/02/13/ncaa.rules.ap/index.html
This is correct--it's a fine rule; however, I don't believe that SEC officials need still more judgement calls. They are likely to call more 15 yard face masks--just imagine next season at Auburn...
