Personally, I like the idea of having voters who have the time and knowledge to adequately research and vote accordingly. The current participants in the Coaches Poll have the knowledge, but not the time.

But we would all be naive to believe these ex-coaches don't have as much (or more) bias in placing their votes. And, unless I'm mistaken, these ex-coach participants would participate in profit-sharing from the "venture." In other words, the more revenue they can generate, the more money they would make on an individual basis. That in and of itself is a strong reason to question the credibility/validity of the poll.

Scenario: end of year, three teams are unbeaten, let's say Texas/Michigan/Virginia, network makes a major revenue contribution to the organization to insure they get the Texas-Michigan ratings bonanza the networks need to generate mega-millions in advertising fees.....you get the picture.

The bias is there....it is real... it cannot be overcome with computers or another of the polls du jour. Until a playoff or mini-playoff is instituted (in spite of the greedy mofo D-1 presidents) you can expect controversey to reign. Fact.
