If this is all the law states, then i see no problem with it. Of course you are going to have those police who just randomly stop people due to profiling and whatnot, but that happens already anyway. Hell Joe Arpaio (Maricopa County Sheriff) is already been under investigation for abuse of power regarding immigration. This is the guy who makes his inmates sleep in tents and wear pink, and takes pictures of dogs living inside jail cells in the air conditioning and shows them to inmates. Alot of the prisoners are non violent drug offenders too. I think if he weren't involved, you wouldn't see as much backlash from this law.

There is backlash because, once again, Obama spoke out before he knew what the hell he was talking about, which he tends to do in matters involving race.

so you equate this to the same thing he did with the Gates situation? Jumping the gun? I can see that, but i think it's just mainly a knee jerk reaction. I didn't even hear Obama say anything, but the first thing i thought of was abuse of power by law enforcement, and racial profiling. If it goes down like you say it is supposed to, then i don't see a problem.

Within a couple hours of the bill being signed, Obama, who was giving a speech somewhere, said the bill was irresponsible and some other things. He clearly had not even seen the bill yet but was, typically, pandering to his base without regard for the truth.

Excuse me, your liberalness, but those 2 go hand in hand. There is no shame in sounding like "The Voice of Reason" unless you're trying to kiss the a$$ of a certain demographic.

Actually he said it was "misguided".

"Our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others," he said, pointing to the Arizona bill. "In fact, I've instructed members of my administration to closely monitor the situation and examine the civil rights and other implications of this legislation. But if we continue to fail to act at a federal level, we will continue to see misguided efforts opening up around the country."

"Over the years, many have attempted to confront this challenge, but passions are great and disagreements run deep," he said. "Yet surely we can all agree that when 11 million people in our country are living here illegally, outside the system, that's unacceptable. The American people demand and deserve a solution. And they deserve common-sense, comprehensive immigration reform grounded in the principles of responsibility and accountability."

No, he had read the bill before making his comments.

He wasn't pandering to his democratic base, 78% of Americans spanning party lines think that the alien issue must be addressed. He was pandering to Hispanic voters who have been a solid democratic vote that he doesn't want to lose.

What exactly did he say that was untrue?

Thank you, your haughty, goose-stepping Naziness. May I have another?

No kidding. The guy said it was irresponsible, no matter how you slice it.

    And you know this how?
