You are quite correct. Extreme liberals tend to do this. However, it works exactly the same way from the right as well, so your point is moot. Limbaugh, Hammity, and the rest of the xtreme right constantly label their opponents as "socialist", "pacifist", "traitor", "coward", "liar", etc. Just read some of the right-wing posts around here. Any time someone brings up the issues of trillion-dollar deficits, unprecedented national debt, avoidable wars, environmental lethargy, economic stagnation, more enemies, fewer allies and jobs shipped overseas, you can count on the liberals to say "The sky is falling and we're all going to die!" and for the conservatives to say "Hey! Look over there! It's Saddam Hussein!"
I did. It was a mistake. I didn't think much of either candidate, but I thought we needed a change after 8 years of democrats. I thought Bush would be more like his intelligent and prudent father, which he clearly is not. Also, I just thought Gore was a pussy. But it was a mistake. I'll never vote for the dumber of two candidates again. I wasn't crying over the 2000 election results as SF imagines. Just pointing out that close elections often bring about questionable political hijinks.
Your honest opinion, what do you think Al Gore would have done after 9/11, and where do you believe we would be today under his leadership? I personally doubt we would have ever declared a "War on Terror". Probably a Clintonesque missile launch, maybe fly a few plane over the mountains and drop a couple of bombs. Regardless of Bush's mistakes, we haven't been attacked since, I don't think we would be able to say that under Gore.
OK, Texastigers, What's this "vision of the founding fathers" you claim to know so much about? Give us a summary. I'm dying to hear it.
Just to add something, we had civilians attacked in the first WTC attack; we also had an American military vessel attacked, not to mention embassy bombings. The Clinton/Gore administration did nothing. No reason to expect any more from Gore as president. This is one instance where I feel an over-reaction is much better than an under-reaction. The facts is, no more attacks on our soil to this point. That is one that can't be argued.
I want to hear how you can make the idiotic comparison between the Netherlands/Sweden and the United States.
Well thats a lot to type. Since I did a Thesis on it for my Masters I will give you some interesting highlights. States Rights - (Big one here) The role of the government is to defend the nation not legislate morality or micro-govern the people. Its the role of the state to determine the majority of legislation in its own. In short I am for a very small government (VERY SMALL) Of course technically most laws are morality (Against the law to murder, thats technically legislating morality) So that is a great debate.. I support seperation of Church and State. I believe in the right to bear arms I believe in Freedom of speech, where you and most liberals disconnect is that you believe you have the right to free speech on Private Property - See Linda Rondstat (sp?) I believe in the 3 branches of Government I believe its the role of the people NOT the government for Welfare. I believe the government has no business in my home. I believe in respecting the men and women who died fighting so you and I can debate on some stupid chat board. I believe in taking off my damn hat in Tiger Stadium when the Anthem is being played. I believe in freedom of religion ALL kinds. So long you dont violate the rights of others. What is so wrong with a moment of silence, why the assault from the left ?. The governments ONLY role in Religion is to protect its freedom. So I bet you are pretty suprised. Not very republican views are they ? You see I am a true conservative - A Barry Goldwater conservative so to speak. Hence I am not a big fan of Bush. I belive in a flat tax rate, I believe in dramatically reducing taxes, as well as DRAMATICALLY reducing government spending and foriegn welfare. I believe in a strong military. I believe America should protect its interest, regardless if France likes it or not. I dont believe American is the worlds police officer. Why should we spend Millions on AIDS in Africa when we have children in our own cities who dont have books to read. I believe the UN should be expelled from the US and the United States withdraw its interests. I also believe in Character, something the Kerrys dont have. His wife is a shrill. I could go on and on. I am also an Isolationist, if you dont know what that is, in your reading dig that up. The Republican Party has turned its back on true conservative views. The Dems are flat out enemies of it. (And the United States for matter in my opinion) As for Red55 - I could not agree more, hence I don’t listen to Rush Limbaugh and when I do I realize what I am getting. Unlike Dan Rather who peddles his liberal agenda as news. I would love to debate with a Liberal or some blind republican who does not hold his/her candidate to the fire for not being a true conservative. Often they leave confused and frustrated. As for the war - Well you are missing one very very large picture there. Give you a hint. The war on Terror not started by us, is being fought on foreign soil... The Deficit- I agree, cut taxes AND cut spending, not just one. However if American only gets half of the debt owed to IT back. No deficit... I assume you dont read Fortune Magazine where 4 economist showed the effects of the deficit depending on who wins, with Bush it will increase, with Kerry (Assuming all policy is passed) it increases by another 130 billion. Read the article you may tap the breaks a bit on the deficit. Kerry will spend more then bush, Bank on it, he already said he will. The difference he will tax the American people to death to pay for it.... What is so great about a budget surplus, doesn’t that mean the American People are being taxed to death ? Why should the government be so big ? It should be poor and broke. One last thing, I believe we are doing things right if countries like France and Germany are opposed to it. Both countries have engaged in trying very Anti American policy. Fact is when the towers came down, France sent flowers. Screw them, and everyone else. I am glad we are putting American first and foriegn interest second. If you ever go to France, try to find American wine... Bet you cant....... F the French Anyway this is to long.
Who knows what Gore would have done as President? But come on, the notion that ONLY George W. Bush would have acted decisively is awfully naive. Any American president, including Jimmy Friggin" Carter would have launched a war on the terrorists after 9/11, in their lairs in Afghanistan. The whole country was behind it. The whole world was behind us. A smarter president would have avoided the disasterous misadventure in Iraq. A smarter president would not engage in the abandonment of economic sanity in irresponsibly cutting taxes while engaging in an expensive foreign war, mad domestic spending creating in the largest budget deficit ever, and expanding government at four times the rate of his predecessor! Gore would have been a smarter president. Where would we be now-who knows?
Oh, do you now? Do you? Do you support the government's insertion of "under God" in our pledge in the 1950's to promote monotheism? Do you? How far does that extend? Should citizens be allowed to own rocket-propelled grenades? If not, why not? Government-sponsored speech is not protected by the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights are protections for private citizens against the government. No government official has a Constitutional right to use his office to promote Christian beliefs. The preamble of the Constiution makes it clear that our government exists to promote the general welfare. Welfare to the disadvantaged comports very nicely with that doctrine. Is that why Republicans wanted to outlaw sodomy? I agree. I agree, but it's no big deal. What's wrong with the moment of silence is that it's used to promote religion. You know that... I don't have to tell you. Yes, but that extends to all individual sects. I believe in matching our military to current circumstances. So does John Kerry. I believe in acting ethically. If our interest involves screwing French people unfairly, I'm against it. Then why are we in Iraq? Because it's a decent thing to do? There is no shortage of books in the USA. I believe isolationist thinking like that is detrimental to world peace and thus to our own security. John Kerry is the most decent, ethical man to run for the presidency in my lifetime. He's a champion of the underprivileged. He put his career on the line to protest an unjust war, and helped to save thousands of lives in the process. His wife is a genuine philanthropist who makes occasional verbal gaffes because English is not her first language. "Conservative views" are immoral. The war in Iraq has not diminished terrorism, but has aided it. We've created far more Muslim enemies than before, and we have no exit strategy from the quagmire. The money would have been better spent shoring up domestic defense. At any rate, over 1100 of our soldiers have died on Bush's lies. Kerry has said he will trim any of his programs that makes the deficit situation worse. We already know Bush is a budget buster; the Dems spent within their means while in the White House. Time to give the Dems another chance. Nonsense. He looked into the camera and pledged not to, and if you know anything about presidential history, and Bush Sr.'s similar pledge, you'd know he was quite aware that to break that pledge would be political suicide. No, it means that government is spending within its means, and that your children won't have to pay off your debts. It should promote the general welfare, without regard to size. That's absurd xenophobic us-versus-the-world thinking. They are our allies, and we need them as friends. For example, it sure would be nice if they were fighing right now on our side in Iraq. Hogwash. France has busted many terrorist cells. How sweet. Try to find a French car in the USA.
