Not sure if your being serious or posiing a real question here HOWEVER...

Since 9/11 there have been numerious attacks in other friendly countries if we were not on heighten awareness I think we just might have seen another attack here.

Hell I think the steps and measures we have taken in secruity has prevented a few attacks that we may never know where even in play.

of course i was serious. i saw 9/11 firsthand, relatively closeup. i went to world trade center twice every day. i shopped there, and ate there. it made me nervous when it was destroyed. i was worried that it was the start of a pattern of terrorism. i thought maybe suicide bombers might start coming to america to blow up sbarrros pizza or whatever. they wouldnt kill many, but they would terrorize and scare folks.

of course i am aware there have been other bombings in london and bali and madrid. i dont live in those places, i live in america, in new york, so i am less concerned about those.

as far as how many we have prevented, i dunno. i believe the bush/cheney administration when they say they prevented a couple, i think the brooklyn bridge was one of them. i support the partiot act and i support obama for siding with the government on the wiretapping cases. i am also wildly in favor of brutal torture for all terrorists, even if yields no information whatsoever. if the government wants to take our civil liberties in order to catch and kill terrorists, i am all for it.

furthermore, i am obsessed with the idea that religion in general and islam in particular are horrible forces that punish humankind. i would go further on this but i have beaten it to death over in free speech alley, and will continue to.

very well said and in the spirit of the thread.

and crip, i agree. a national day of service not a holiday is in order. i hate to see this day become just "another holiday".

however, lets not miss all the joy in our lives while remembering. i noticed in the 9/11 thread in fsa that two members have bd's today.

Didnt mean to offend just never 100% sure when you post something.

What I meant by bringing those up were the fact that the terrorist were not taking a break they just went after weaker targets and that the measures we have taken since 9/11 as far as secruity may have preempted attacks

That is the one thing we have always seen eye to eye on!

man, watched the many shows on history channel last night, but the 102 minutes one was really depressing. I remember it happening, i remember where i was, but this is the first time i have sat and watched anything on 9-11 since that day back in 2001. It was gut wrenching, painful, and extremely sad. And i wasn't there, nor did i know anyone who was killed, or had family that was killed.

America hasn't been the same since 9-11, and i am reading alot of anti muslim talk on here. Remember, there were a lot of innocent muslims killed on that dreadful day as well. Please do not let your emotions blind you to the fact that, christians, jews, muslims, buddhists, black, white, brown, were all viciously murdered on that day.

Same here. I'm surprised (but obviously happy and grateful) that this very thing has not started happening; given the near impossibility of stopping it.

On another note, it's just heartbreaking and unimaginable to think those who died in the collapse or on those planes, but the absolute worst is those poor souls who had to make the awful decision to jump from the building or be consumed by fire. Just awful.

Well, we've tightened up on easy foreign access. That has stopped most of these foreign-trained suicide bombers.

One of the terrorism analysts on a Sunday morning talk show earlier this year said that American was not suffering from the kind of home-grown terrorism that is plaguing Britain because muslim citizens in America don't seem to be as susceptible to foreign islamist radicalism. He wasn't sure why, but speculated that muslims who are born here or have lived here for a lengthy time just ain't buying the "America is the great satan" line. Those suicide bombers are found in poor disenfranchised middle eastern countries that are rife with despair. It's easy to find a strong back and a weak mind that wants to be a martyr in Palestine. Muslims in America are doing pretty well and don't seem inclined to give up their successful auto-repair business to kill themselves for Osama.

    Are you surprised? :dis:

A 9/11 thread, Kennedy's death. Just another opportunity for a political wisecrack.

This isn't FSA. It's a 9/11 remembrance thread. Have you no shame?

    My, aren't you clever today . . . :rolleye33:
