I guess you would have had to sit out the American Revolution. The US did not become a secular state until declared so in Lemon. 1970's I believe.
Be serious. President Clinton did not challenge the Israelis on anything of susbtance. He took on the Israelis, like he took on Sister Souljah and addressed all possible questions about his marital infedilities on 60 Minutes after the Super Bowl. But that isn't a criticism of him, it would be absolute political suicide for any candidate to really take on Israel on any issue of substance. You would be pilloried in the media and your fundraising would dry up quickly. That's just the way it is. And as far as your silly article you linked, I noticed the letters that Kristol & Co. wrote were apparently released, but Clinton's response about vigorously taking on Osama & Gang are from the recollection of a Clinton minion? I don't buy that either. A couple of more ladies crawled out of the woodwork and Clinton would have had us in Iraq also, his working hard on Osama notwithstanding.
THE ART OF THE LIE Gosh, what's it like to be a Republican during these troubled times? It must be incredibly satisfying to occupy such a lofty position of moral superiority high above your fellow men enabling you to look down your nose and see so clearly the foibles and weaknesses of your enemies while glorying in your own self righteousness. I wish that I found it so easy as you to see my way through such intricate matters as trying to make an informed decision on who best to lead our country into this new millennium. My problem it seems is that I no longer find it easy to believe what people on either side of the political spectrum routinely purport to be the truth. I find that I personally have to do a lot of reading and second guessing before I am comfortable in my decission on just who and what to believe, and even then my vote often turns out to be for the lesser of two evils. I have watched every administration since Kennedy pass through the gates of power in Washington, and for the most part they have all misled the American public from time to time for whatever reason they found justifiable and convenient, but this present administration has raised the art of prevarication to new and heretofore unachieved levels. Don't get me wrong, Nixon was an excellent liar, and Johnson was no slouch either. It's no secret that Clinton had his moments, Reagan was so good that he made us believe that even HE believed his lies, and GHW Bush was undoubtedly, in retrospect, world class in this aspect of presidential talent. This current Bush team of jackals, however, has made the art of the lie the cornerstone of their administration. Their natural tendency towards obfuscation migrates into all areas of government, but it is in the foreign policy realm that their talents are most remarkable. I could go into chapter and verse here, documenting their attempts to mislead and misdirect all who listen to their carefully and cleverly constructed fabrications, but I'll offer you instead a far more horrifying yet fascinating text from inside the Pentagon's neocon intelligence community itself. http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2004/03/10/osp_moveon/index.html After reading the above information and realizing how much Bush's White House so clearly believes that the ends justify the means, whatever they might be, and seeing for youself how lies were fabricated with plausible deniability and scapegoats built into every shameless deceit they passed off to congress and the U.N., if you are still able to consider voting for that cabal of reckless and dishonest schemers, then sadly, you can consider that pitiful stipend they saved you on your taxes to be truly blood money well spent in the straight up buying of your vote.
