To you and me sure, no one really gives a flip about us, for NCAA athletes it is a different story and he knew that, they all know that. Bottom line is that this is a tough nut to crack. Anytime you start the conversation of students getting paid it full of roadblocks at every turn. Sadly I don't have the answer, maybe one day someone will find a way to create some sort of system that will allow it but I wouldn't hold my breath, in fact I'm not even sure I'm in favor of it. They get paid enough under the table or in this case "under the dorm room door" and as long as those making the payments keep in the shadows, and those getting paid don't roll up to class in an S class tricked out to the nines then all should be fine.
For those interested there has been a HUGE turnaround in Vegas. I had previously posted erronious information, the odds were not as high as I stated, somehow I misread it. They were actually at one point +165 for JM to play any game this season. They are now at -410. That is a monumental turnaround and can only mean that someone somewhere has it on pretty good authority that the NCAA doesn't have squat OR they are just trying to bait. I'd go with the former.
Not sure I agree. Isn't this essentially the same thing that the Ohio State players did with the exception they traded the autographs and memorabilia for tattoos? I'm sure Jenny Fartball could easily pull an Edwin if his friend set up the payment: "Elaine, why didn't you tell me Tongsun Park gave you that money?"
The OSU ppl were also selling those Michigan/OSU pins, and autographs on memorabilia. At least that's what I thought. I also know of a tattoo artist in Alexandria that has tatted 5 LSU players in the past 2 weeks. Seen the pictures and all. Wonder if they paid for them.
I think it is against NCAA rules for an athlete's signature to be sold "sellers marketing player autographs violate NCAA rules and could risk the eligibility of collegiate athletes . According to NCAA bylaw 12 .5. 2.2, if memorabilia is being sold or promoted using a student athlete ’s name , such as an autograph, “the student -athlete ( or the institution acting on behalf of the student-athlete ) is required to take steps to stop such an activity in order to retain his or her eligibility for intercollegiate athletics. ”
Here's what a guy from one of the big online betting sites said: "If he does in fact get suspended by the NCAA and is not starting against Alabama, the Aggies will move from getting only 4.5 points to at least two touchdown underdogs in that game. It will also impact the spreads on their whole schedule moving their win total from 9.5 to 7.5 and their BCS Championship Odds from 12-1 to 33-1, if not higher. Ohio State's Braxton Miller who was at 13-2 odds to win the Heisman will now be the new front-runner with odds of under 5-1."
