If they want to ban anything, they should ban that goofy hillbilly with the coonskin cap at Tenn or the guys with the tide/toilet paper at UAT.

Seems odd to me that the Seminole tribe in Florida reportedly has no objection to FSU's use of the name. If they're not offended, why should anyone else be. As previously stated in a post above, I think the reason these mascots were chosen was to project an image of fierce competitors, strong, determined, and courageous. I find nothing derogatory in that.

I think the NCAA has once again overstepped it's bounds. Maybe the NCAA should go away as I can't figure out much good that they do anyway. I wish they would have spent the time they invested in solving this major non-issue in looking at graduation rates, stipends for athletes, punishing cheating coaches, and growing the cajones to stand up to some favored universities. The NCAA is simply a dysfunctional organization.

I second the motion, and I move the OU be compelled to forfeit the OU/OSU football game for the next five seasons as compensation!

This is the Politically Correct police completely run amuck. I pray to GOD that the President at FSU and the Florida Seminole Nation not just appeal to the NCAA, but take some kind of legal action to stop this craziness. However, in the courts view the NCAA is a private organization thereby sets it's own guidelines and rules. And remember the NCAA is made up of its member schools - those schools with Indian nicknames really need to get people on committees and make sure this lunacy stops. Really the only way I could see any of these schools, particularly Florida State and Illinois, can stop this madness is to withdraw the schools from the NCAA Collegiate Properties which gains some money from collegiate merchandise sales. But I don't know if that would even have enough of an economic impact to force the NCAA to capitulate.FSU and Illinois are really the only two schools that have Indian-like mascots which generate a lot of merchandise sales. And the only way you're going to affect change with the presidents that make up the decision makers in the NCAA is by hitting them in the pocket book.

The Seminole Nation should have a big pow wow and put on the war paint and make heap big trouble for the fire water drinking white chiefs from the north. It's all about the wampum.

The quote from member of the Seminole nation about the NCAA decision...."it's just like before where a bunch of non-Indians keep telling Indians what's good for us."

In the history of college football, there was a team called the "worm eaters." They gave the name up.....Maybe FSU could adopt it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any of you know that team?

I wonder if FSU has created any sort of a web-based petition where we can support overturning this decision? If it does go through then "Hurricanes" are next on my list. I'm assuming they are named after the drinks which have caused me a ton of personal duress. :yelwink2:
