Ok, another thought. After this assinine ban goes into effect, what is to stop fans of schools from wearing t-shirts, caps, etc. with the "offensive" (the NCAA's word, not mine!) logo on them? Nothing! I hope that if the ban goes into effect, that FSU fans show up in mass at every event possible wearing the biggest logo of a Seminole they can find. Shove those mascots right into the nose of the Nazi's!! And wave large flags and banners while they are at it.
As a native of the Lone Star state and having never owned, operated, worked on, or lived on a farm, the insinuation of agriculture is offensive. I demand the NCAA force Texas A&M to change their name to the "Mechanics". My wife, a graduate of USL and a Cajun, a federally recognized minority, demands respect. Accordingly, she asks the NCAA to force her alma mater to drop the entire "Cajun" title.
We're next. Our beloved mascot, the tigers, were named after a Civil War brigade from the south. That would imply, then, that the LSU mascot promoes slavery. I can hear it now... "It's Saturday night... and here come your fighting Creampuffs of LSU! " Note: The sarcasm
Did anyone else notice that the meeting was in INDIANapolis? They should boycott the city of INDIANa and INDIANapolis until the names are changed. How insensitive.
From now on, it's nativeamericananapolis, and nativeamericana. Or maybe just apolis and a. Just to make sure no native americans take offense to the term native american. But personally, I take offense to letters in general. So we need to start calling the states by the number in which they were admitted into the union. But some of us can't count, and would certainly take offense to that. Well, let's just call the states whatever we want so that we don't get offended by any recognized name that happens to be personally offensive. While I'm at it, I take offense to the fact that we didn't win last years NC. This line of thinking seems to be common in California and Alabama (or state numbers 31 and 22, respectively.) From now on, in my mind, we've won every national championship since the Iron Age. Anyone who tells me different is offensive, and owes me money in compensation for my hurt feelings. Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid.
The email for NCAA minority affairs in INDIANa is: [email protected] you may want to email her and ask if there are any plans to move the HQ out of a city that has such an offensive name.
As an interesting side-note to this story...the NCAA can not stop football teams from using these nicknames. I just read in another story that said since the NCAA does not sanction any post-season tournaments, or championships in football...they can not stop a team from using nicknames. Thjs ruling only applies to post-season championships...so football is exempt. Although I doubt Florida St. or any other school would use a mascot just for football and something else for another sport.
