I would understand if some university had a naked lady mascot. Or a pedophile mascot. I would understand if the university deliberately sought to make an OBVIOUSLY offensive mascot. But holy ****. Did the New England Patriots get the explicit permission of John Adam, Ben Franklin, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson to use that mascot? In the end, WHO GIVES A DAMN! It's a mascot, for christ's sake. Just how childish can these morons become? These guys just want what they want when they want it. This isn't based on any justifiable, or even sane reason. The name Sooners is for a group of lawbreakers - people who illegally snuck into the territory before the official start time of the land runs. As a native Oklahoman, I am offended that a major university in Oklahoma would have a mascot that is nothing more than a lawless thug. That gives all Oklahomans a bad name. I demand the NCAA ban the mascot Sooner by the University of Oklahoma!
Ok, not really. Being an Oklahoma State fan, I think that OU having a thug for a mascot is quite appropriate.:grin: But the NCAA has opened up a can of worms.
