I'm assuming you thought he weighed less. At his height and considering he's much better put together than others that have been in that neighborhood (Bol, Bradley), that weight seems about right. The Rockets really need a PF and could end up taking Big Baby. I think the best case scenario is that Big Baby is drafted by a good team late in the 1st round (like the Heat or Rockets) and he fits well, continues to stay in shape, and has a long career as an NBA starter. The most likely scenario is that he's a role player (part-time starter) and earns a nice living. If he ends up being a bust in the NBA, is it too late to give the NFL a shot as a DE or even a DT if he's allowed to bulk back up? With those quick feet and natural strength, it seems like he could maybe make a squad and develop for a few years.
You make good arguments, and certainly this is an interpretation of stats issue. While you like to rely on this metric, which I also respect, I think what it doesn't do is take into account what team you're on. Horford may have been "more efficient" than Glen, but look at the team he's surrounded with. Much to my point, Horford rarely was double teamed, he was able to draw the other team's weaker post defender, b/c most teams tried to take Noah away. Glen on the other hand was "less efficient" certainly than last year (I'd like to see Glen's stats last year vs this), but there were explainable reasons. Put Glen on a team with a consistent low post threat other than him, and a consistent outside shooter, and Glen would have had better "offensive efficiency", IMO. Nevertheless, I think the real issue for teams is going to be Horford (if the draft measurements are right), is 6'10" and 246, and Glen is 6'8" and 290. Al will be drafted for his two more inches and his 45 less lbs. You're right I'm taking Glen somewhat on the "potential" of him losing weight and developing more, and NBA will take Horford for his "ready to play now" and his physical specimen. I still don't see Horford as a long-term NBA star though, and I see Glen, actually, as having more talent. We'll see though, only time will tell.
i think most of us forget how skilled around the basket glen really is. although he plays below the rim, his body control is excellent as is his hands skills which will afford him success even against taller guys. he wont be taking guys off the dribble and firing up 3's like he did too often last year. none of that perimeter stuff is gonna play. how successful he will be remains to be seen. that non-vertical jump worries me though. he plays a foot shorter than he actually is at times and this is why i think so many doubt him. I can see him being a 6th guy off the bench but he could have the skills to surprise us as well.
Big Baby turned down a workout session for the Timberwolves because he is now confident he will be a 1st round selection. As of now he is predicted as high as the 17th pick to the Nets. Good for him, his stock is soaring now after a huge drop.
Perhaps he is better than we realize? My question is, is he that much better than any of the other Tigers that have been in the NBA. Most of them have received little playing time if any outside of TT and Stromile Swift. Thinking of Brandon Bass, I don't think I've seen him ever play in a game but then again I don't get Hornets games.
Bass has played in a multiple games but mainly because of all the injuries the Hornets have suffered over the past 2-3 years. It will take some time for him to develop and even then he is not a guarantee to be a starter or major contributer off the bench. Davis has a more complete game than TT and Swift. TT and Swift are very good at what they do but it is more one deminsional and they need the right offense to strive, IMO. Glen might have to rely on doing one or two aspects on his game at the start of his NBA career but he has the most potential to develop all of his aspects down the road. Just my opinion and potential doesnt always work out in the end.
Can you tell me where you are finding this, cause every mock draft i see has him going second round. I mean i am hoping he is a first round pick. But, i cant see it
Big Baby made a big mistake leaving early, he needed another year of learning how to shot better from the outside... He is not a leaper, barely a creeper, outside shot chancey at best(although most college players now can't shoot) he wasn't a big rebounder in college so can safely assume that will be the norm. Maybe he will end up a free agent with the Rockets, MCGREEDY needs someone to set picks for him.
I am not saying he is a definite 1st rounder but he is feeling good about it right now. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=225513
