Great. If all 3 teams go undefeated and LSU is shut out, I'm sure your rationlization will make you feel much better.:dis:

    Dear pointless

Don't be a fool! Saban HAS to say that to get his team ready, not to mention trying to take the heat off the team and get a little lwer on the radar. YOU are several others here are the ones misinng the point. I challenge you and the others to go back and READ what I wrote and refute it logically. UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION before you go running your mouth. You are of course entitled to your opinion, but I assure you you are in the minority.

I guess you guys think the coaches/SIDs around the country are bias against LSU too?

Poor little LSU ... the whole world is against them!

That is kinda a big IF there. I find it hard to believe that all three will go undefeated, as good as I feel about our team I think it will be quite impossible to go undefeated. I'm praying for it but just being a little realisitic.

    If you don't think

that there is a bias against Louisiana and LSU in the country you are fooling yourself. Did you ead what New York's policticians said about Louisiana and Blanco's letter back? Did you not watch the networks and media WHINE about the Mike Williams situation THIS YEAR, and fail to mention LSU's lost senior, who was FAR more innocent and at least went to class?

Fact of the matter is people poke fun of Louisiana and we are looked down on. Mississippi and most other Southern states are considered stupid, etc. I don't know about you, but I don't take that crap. LSU is our shining star to help get us out of some of that, make people respect us. Saban mentioned that if you read or listened to his speeches after the NC Don't be afraid to take pride in Louisiana - this is the best state in the bunch, and for anyone that doesn't take that to heart, MOVE OUT!

Thanks for not attacking your fellow Tigers and posting your opinion. It's always better to be able to discuss an issue instead of defending name calling afro people that can't think and having to put them in their place.

Having pride in your state and school have nothing to do with an argument against begging, demanding, or crying for respect. As much as I would love for ESPN to gush over the tigers, it's not going to happen until we beat some teams this year. But for now, our ranking is pretty impressive considering the key members that we lost from last year. And calling or writing the media to tell them that it's not good enough, will not help. It hurts. It pisses the media off. That is what you are not understanding. Some members are slowly getting to the point of total dislike for LSU fans. If you don't believe it, read the chat wraps and columns that have come out the past several months. So you tell me, does it really help to complain to them about this?

I have thought many times that our ranking was too low, and sometimes that our ranking was too high, but this time, all things considered, I think it's pretty fair.

And you pointed out the real problem here - the inferiority complex that exists in Louisiana. Quit thinking everyone thinks you are stupid because you are from Louisiana. Telling them you aren't isn't going to make them change their mind. Just be happy about who you are, where you're from, and they will realize that Louisiana is not what they thought. But go chastise them for thinking the way they do and not only will they continue to believe it, they'll start to dislike you and Louisiana even more.

Okay, we're all on the same team here, so let's be civil. There is definitely a media bias, but I don't think it's so much against Louisiana and LSU in particular as it is against teams that aren't traditional football powerhouses. Somebody wrote this idea in another thread a few days ago, but I don't remember who or what thread, so I can't give them credit for already saying it. It's ridiculous to think that the media isn't biased, and is completely subjective. It's made up of humans, every one of which has certain biases. It played out at the end of last year that the bias was favorable of USC, and not as favorable towards LSU. That's not because they have something against the south, or cajuns, or because all of them hate the combination of purple and gold, but because USC is a team that through the years of recent memory has been seen nationwide as more of a football power than LSU, even though these days, it's not an accurate picture. Getting on chats with members of the national sports media and complaining about it won't help anything. The only way to remove this stigma is going to be for LSU to remain among the national elite for a while, and as long as Saban hangs around, we'll be fine. As much as I doubt he will, I sincerely hope Saban decides to hang around and build LSU into a football dynasty, much like Skip did with baseball. Be honest. When you think of football powerhouses of the last few decades, does LSU come to mind? Heck no. We've had some good teams, and some good years, but we were hardly a powerhouse on the national level. If we were, then beating #1 ranked Florida a few years back wouldn't have been such a big deal. Saban has us there now. He's taken us to a new level, and if we continue to win and dominate, then eventually people all over the country will mention LSU when conversation of great football schools comes up.

That being said, I was thoroughly annoyed last season with the media bias. It wasn't so much that we were declared "co-national champions" as it was that the media treated USC as the true champions, and LSU as the team who lucked out. But that's over and done with.

And sos, I do understand what you mean about teams being ranked higher early helps them out, and yes, I have thought that through. The fairest thing would be for no polls to come out until at least after the first game. That way pollsters would be more likely to put less weight on how they thought the teams would do before the season started, and more weight on how the teams actually were. But that's not going to happen. It's also unfair that pollsters hate to jump a team that didn't lose, even if a team slightly lower beat a much harder opponent. But that's going to stay the same. Preseason polls have nothing to do with last season, and that's the bottom line. They aren't about who was at the top last year being able to defend their position. They're about how the pollsters think the teams will play out this year, considering the changes that took place in the offseason. There's still some human bias involved. Should USC be #1 with a completely rebuilt O line and no Mike Williams? Probably not, but they did return most of their defense and QB. I honestly think that if Mauck had come back we'd probably be ranked #2, but really, who cares? And I also think that if USC, OU, and LSU all end up unbeaten, or with an equal record, and the teams have been relatively similar impressively, LSU will have a good chance to go to the Orange Bowl after last year. But that's pointless to discuss at this point.

We just need to take care of business and win games. If we roll up a huge victory Saturday, and some of the other teams ahead of us don't look as impressive, who knows? Maybe we'll be #1 next week.

    Sorry for babbling.

    I don't want to be Preseason #1.

BUT, Landser Sajer, you make some good points. LSU should be ranked higher than OU and Jawja, because we beat them handily last year.

Of course, we could all argue about this until we are blue in the face, and it won't change a thing.

Please place me in the group of CF fans who don't like the recent BCS changes that strengthen the subjective AP Poll and reduce the influence of completely objective factors such as strength of of schedule.

IMO the only team that I can see desrving of a higher ranking than us right now is Oklahoma only because they didn't lose as much from last year's team as we did and they were pretty damn good last year. USC and Miami and Georgia are all media hype right now IMO. But.....it's time to get it on, so we'll see. I'm tired of talking about perceived slight etc... I just want to see some bodies getting pounded.:thumb:

Lousiana is THE BEST! IT'S TRUE.

AND Louisiana still has the best fleet of private raiders of enemy merchant ships ANYWHERE!

There is a media bias agains the Southron States in general and Louisiana in particular. During New Jersey's governor's recent problems with being a corrupt politician, some of the news media up here near NYC actually did make statements comparing NJ politics to "Louisiana" politics, which is an INSULT.

The crook politicians in NY/NJ are MUCH more crooked than Edwin Edwards EVER WAS.
