Dumb Let's live in this season ok. Maybe there is a media bias but we don't deserve to be #1 on the basis of what we did LAST YEAR. We're not the defending national champions until we get to the championship game and there is a whole lot of season before then. I am sick of LSU fans whining about about last season. Move on get over it, Christ even our coach says this every chance he gets. We have to earn the right to defend our title or be worthy of a new one. Lately when ever I see anything posted on mail bags or chats by the media from LSU fans the message is the same, talk about this year and stop whining about last year. Nobody likes a whiner and you're not doing anything to help our image. The system isn't a great one but be a realist, look at the polls in the past and see how often last years champ started the season at #1. It didn't happen last season and it didn't happen this season. You lose great players and your team isn't as good. Seems kinda simple to me. The players who take there positions may be better but no one can say that before they even take the field. If Georgia wins the NC I sure hope they aren't ranked #1 next season losing Greene, Pollack and Co. that would be stupid. Same for any team not returning talent. Sorry for the long post but I sure as hell don't want to live a state with a bunch of whiners.
Actually sos, you could learn something from Coach Saban. "We've tried to establish that by talking about this is a new mountain we have to climb, we planted the flag last year but that's over and done with. It's history. Even though everybody in this room says we're defending something, I only view it as you defend what you can lose. I don't think we can lose the 2003 national championship. It's all about this mountain that we have to climb, the challenges of this season, about us having the right disposition about doing that. Now, if we're satisfied about what we accomplished last year, then we're not going to be ready for the climb." I am an LSU alumnus, and a "true Tiger fan" as you put it. I believe strongly that there is a bias in the national media for certain teams, including but not limited to, USC. It was completely obvious at the end of last season when some in the national sports media claimed that the NC had been played right after the Rose Bowl, and when espn.com's Ivan Maisel (one of the worst as far as bias goes, IMO) finished the season by writing a fictional acount of LSU and USC meeting in a final game with (of course) USC coming out on top. It's pathetic and annoying. However, the fact remains that this is a different team than the one that won the NC last year. We lost some key personel, and until their replacements prove themselves, we can't expect to be everyone's #1 pick this year. The polls right now are PRESEASON. They are supposed to take into acount the changes over the offseason, which include our loss of Mauck, Clayton, Henderson, Lavalais, Hill, Hunt, Peterman, Reed, etc. All of the teams ranked ahead of us right now return their starting QB. I think it's that simple. Does that mean that I think they're better? Of course not, but that's not what the poll is based on. If Mauck, Clayton and Hill had stayed, we could be ranked ahead of Oklahoma and Georgia (not USC b/c of previously mentioned bias), but that's pointless to even discuss. Okay, okay, I'll shut up. But let me just say this. I honestly think come Saturday night about 8:30, the national sports media will be forced to re-evaluate where they have us ranked. And until then, who really cares?
What the hell would you know about it, Gump You've already got LSU losing 2 games this year ... AND THIS TRASH YOU POST HAVING GA RANKED ABOVE LSU :dis: Now we know you're a true Barner or probably a Gump ... run ... forrest ... run ... you're loaded up ... don't **** your pants
I think being a true fan means keeping LSU's best interest in mind. LSU's best interest is not berating writers and media with emails in an attempt to change their view, vote, or demand respect. It opens the eyes of maybe 1% and pisses off the other 99%. That's bad for LSU. And remember, it's not the fans that are the ones who suffer the consequences. It's the players and coaches who have worked their butts off. I totally agree that their is a bias and that USC is still a media darling. But I don't need some "older" fan to tell me the way things were or are. I just know that the perception is that LSU fans are a bunch of whiners, and more whining will not change that perception. We fought all last year to garner any attention. We have some now and believe me, if we go out and take care of business Saturday and all the way through Auburn and Georgia (assuming these two don't fall flat on their faces in the preceding games), we won't be having this conversation.
I personally am tired of reading a chat on ESPN where some LSU fan asks why LSU is not getting respect. The fact of the matter is that LSU is in the top five with an unproven QB and all the other teams in top five have returning starters at QB. I believe that Randall will do just fine but until he shows the rest of the country that he can succeed then I respect and actually agree with their opinions. LSU also lost 3 very good juniors, on top of the seniors, to the draft which once again no one else in the top 5 is having to deal with. I believe that LSU fans would be much better served to drop the "respect issue" and instead focus on the positives for this "2004 team". LSU still has the top defense in the SEC and possibly in the nation. LSU also has one of the top backfields in nation that is running behind a very good offensive line. LSU also has the most talented underclassmen of any school in the nation with the last two years resulting in #1 and #2 recruiting classes. I realize that most fans mean no harm but if this years team takes care of business, the media will give them plenty of respect.
Don't sweat it. We all remember what happened when OSU was pre-season #1 a few years ago!
