    2nd Chance elsewhere AFETER...

he's proved he's worth it...and like I said, would you give the same 2nd chance to the thugs at Ark, Aub, fla St, Miami, etc etc....

LSU is not a rehab center. It should be a reward for those who earn it.

    cheers!

The difference will be if Harris screws up and Saban turns a blind eye. He won't do that though. The Tuberville's and the Houston Nutt's would sometimes "turn a blind eye." You guys are right, LSU is not a rehab center. But give this guy a chance to get an education and play ball. If he screws up once, just once...he's gone...

  3. I think the difference is that this isn't a situation where the person screws up while on the team and Saban is trying to bail him out. He made a mistake, took his sentence and is trying to move on. Keep Harris on a short leash and see what happens. It's not like he's giving him a scholarship off the bat. Harris has to earn his way into the lineup, schollie, etc. - and probably has to show more than a straight-laced HS kid does at this point given his past.

Why wasn't there this kind of commentary when Saban allowed a spot on the team for Pope?

    It's easy to speculate!

The nature of my work leads me to deal with people who need 2nd and often 3rd chances. People are not objects to be thrown away like a broken toy that no longer give you pleasure. Many times athletics are these guys Best, not only, ticket out of that lifestyle. We sit behind computers and make judgements w/o knowing the facts. I trust Saban, if he lets the guy come, go tigers. I believe he'll do the right thing. Besides, we need backers. Remember this, great risks often pay the best rewards. Probably somebody has given each of us a 2nd chance that we didn't deserve. If you have parents, or a spouse, or a job, I know you've been given a 2nd chance.

    and in closing....

I believe that the overall attitude and direction of LSU football is just about the best it's been in my adult lifetime(20 yrs.) You can bring in someone like this when the peer pressure by the other 100 or so guys(including walk-ons) is positive. You can't bring in 10 bad eggs, but 1 can be influenced by all the good. He'll walk into that locker room and hear what the other guys are saying and see the work ethic, and the study ethic and he'll either get in or get out. An old greek saying is "overcome evil with good". I think Saban has LSU poised to take some of these throwaways and wisely bring in those who seem sincere and see them for once have success in life not just fball. Gotta like that!

Re: rationalize all we want, but..

and you had the gall to call me a Immature Idiot. this post is like the kettle calling the pot black. You rip all LSU fans, Coach Saban, and A kid who messed up, was his crime serious yes it was, but that don't give you any rights to fly off of the handle. Before You start Blasting Coach Saban look at his track record. He has had only one person on the team that was in the Media for trouble he got in (Tim Pope). This is NOT Gerry Dumb@$$ team who lets convicted Felons come on the team left and right. Have you not noticed that since Coach Saban has come only a handful of players haven't even qualified to get into school?? in closing you really are a "walmart" fan with comments like that.

    Pope, Collins

Those guys were known to be problems with a long history. I don't know if Harris has a history or just made a mistake. Saban is getting paid to find out and make a decision in the best interest of LSU. So far I think he has done an excellent job. Even Pope, although he did not pan out, did not embarass the University.

What is the world coming to, a Miami fan, a fan of a program that has more gangsters, thugs and punks (Look at their Alumni of Micheal Irvin, Warren Sapp, and the great Raven LB Lewis who was part of a violent murder) than any other school (Maybe FSU). Need we rehash a list of crimes committed by Miami players as part of the Miami football team ?? This happened while he was a Miami recruit..

As far as this issue goes, I am on the fence, one side says bad idea, the other says well he made a mistake, he paid for that mistake. Saban (who I trust more then any of us or some fan of a gangster program) decides well this kid may have realized his error in judgement and instead of turning him away we will give a chance under certain circumstances.
Also he did not commit this crime as a player of LSU (See Auburns fine players) this is in his past. I am sure Saban has had many talks with this young man.
Having looked at how clean our program has been by not having Auburn or Texas like issues of Pot, women beating, cheating or DUI's. I think I will trust Sabans judgement on this one.

Another thing College is different then the Pros to me. If this kid is given a chance to get a first rate education, turn his life around this helps him and society. Not to get on a soap box here, but maybe just maybe Saban has really thought this one out and see's an opportunity not to only help a football team win a game but turn what could be a life of misery and prison to a prosperous life with a College Degree... Give him a chance.

Look, I am sure this guy will be a on a very short leash. But I say it again, I trust Saban more then anyone in this nation on what is best for LSU football and for our program as a whole.

Now Miami fan, dont you have some gang members to recruit and start preparing for your next NCAA investigation ???

For the record I am a gun toting, right wing, republican voting hard line right winger. So spare me the Liberal stuff. I also believe in Forgivness, and the possiblity of turning someones life around. When he did his deed he had nothing to do with LSUs programs. None of this happened as a part of LSU.
What he does from now on is where us LSU people and fans should cast our judgement.

Re: Re: rationalize all we want, but..

Hey junior, I stand by my comments about you, Saban, & others, but you should try reading a little more closely.

'rip all LSU fans, Coach Saban, and a kid who messe up'"?

creative reading I guess on your part where I rip anyone other than a convicted armed robber. 'messed up'.? ARMED ROBBERY is not messing up, it is committing a felony that could have cost someone their life!

I would not trade Saban for any coach in America, but people make mistakes and he is making a whopper on this one, regardless of how it turns out.

    cheers!

btw, I need my yard cut, could you be there this afternoon?
