One of the things I've learned in life is YOU put yourself in situations whether they be positive or negative. Even if you personally don't do anything wrong, you probably have a pretty good idea of what's going on around you and what people around you are capable of. Had he the common sense to not be around these questionable characters in the first place he would not have to deal with the situation because it would have never occured. I have noticed that many of the people I went to high school with went to jail and I didn't. I am no angel by a long shot. The most important factor of why I never did was because I removed myself from situations that had the probability of being a questionable activity or circumstance. Most of the time you can tell when something bad is going down, it is not like you were just hanging out then all of the sudden you were part of a robbery. Give me a break! We don't need him that bad. I really can't believe Saban would even let someone who was around that kind of stuff on the team. He is more likely to be a detriment than a positive. Give some other kid who DESERVES it a shot. The fact that he has a son and is involved in anything like that is disgusting. I truly hope he can turn his life around. But, at the same time I don't want to see him try in tiger gear. I really hope this doesn't bite us in the arse later on.

I know this is contraversial and is a risky decision by Saban and I agree with a lot of the points being made on this thread. I'm not saying the guy was totally innocent. He screwed up in a BIG way, but he has served his sentence and is asking for someone to give him a chance.

Saban is certainly aware that if this goes bad, he'll take a lot of criticism. He must really believe in this kid or I am sure there is no way he'd risk the team being put in a bad light.

I am just hoping for the best.

    tell you what -

If you LSU guys don't call us thugs . We wont call you thugs.

    J E S U S !!

You are enrolling a freaking convicted felon. A felon who was involved in an armed robbery.

A man we did not enroll to become part of our team.

What is wrong with you guys.

Miami had to live down a ton of bullshit over kids with less baggage than this kid.

Are you guys deaf, dumb, and blind.

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cubancomet, there's a difference in:
    1. having someone on your team that is currently causing problems and/or breaking the law and not properly disciplining them or letting them slide
    and
    2. Giving someone a second chance after they have been punished for their wrongdoings.

Do you not see that difference?

Hey cubancomet, I'm sure that Nick Saban had extensive talks with Harris and thoroughly investigated the situation before deciding to give the kid a shot at redeeming himself. He will be on a short leash and if he blows it he will be gone faster than you can order a cup of that great Cuban coffee they serve in Miami. Unlike most people around here I have always pulled for the Canes as long as they were not playing LSU. Are you a Marlins fan? I am going to be in south Florida sometime in August. I'm going to try to time my trip so that I can catch Dontrelle Willis pitching in Pro Player Stadium.

Just remember the LB'er from Panama City, FL? He was gone damn near before wearing the P&G. I'm nervous about this decision. It's not mine to make, and considering the trouble he was in earlier, this may bite us in the rear. Saban has not only brought in talent, but quality people too. Look at Cecil Collins and all the second chances he received. I'm not the coach and don't make the decisions, but if I were, I'd keep this kid as far away as possible. Let some other school give him a second chance. Tennessee is a good spot for a player like this. He can screw up time and again, and they will cover for him.

  8. Saban seems to try to give one questionable player a second chance every couple of years (see Tim Pope). If Harris is screwing around, he'll be gone and team will not have a negative influence around them. On the other hand, won't it be good for Harris is he can turn his life around by getting away from those negative influences he has been around growing up in Miami?

Bringing Harris in is a risk, but Saban knows what's going on and will be keeping an eye on things. This is a good reminder of what college sports is supposed to be about - developing young people into responsible adults. If this kid can turn things around, the Saban, Harris and the rest of those associated with LSU football will be better people for having a hand in it.

    rationalize all we want, but..

LSU fans have been rippin' Bowden, Tub, Nutt, Miami etc for years about letting 'bad elements' hang around the team and we are inviting a CONVICTED ARMED ROBBER to join our team...come on, Tub did this and he would be ridiculed to hell & back.

How the heck is Saban going to talk to anyone about accepting consequences for behavior when we let a punk like this in the front door?

Saban will lose a GREAT deal on credibility with the team, media, and most importantly ME if he follows through with this.

2nd chance by butt, I cannot believe what I am reading on this board.

    cheers!

If someone has paid their debt to society why shouldn't they be allowed a second chance? I do not know much about his situation, but unless he is still getting arrested for other stuff and suspected in other crimes after the one we are talking about he should at least get a chance (i.e still being a trouble maker). Though he should be on an extremely short leash with a one problem and you are out deal.
Saban usually runs off trouble makers pretty quick, so if this guy has not turned himself around he will be gone before the football season is over if not before.
If we still had Archer or Hallman I would be very worried about this guy coming aboard, but I think Saban can handle it.
