Names on Uniforms?

The jersey names came about because of TV. The fans like to know who they are seeing and most don't have the numbers memorized. Also LSU sometimes plays reserves that share a number with a starter in games like Appalachian state.

For years Bama never wore names, but they finally came around . . . to make it interesting TV viewers, many of which are not fanatic fans.

What is your definition of "tradition" because I doubt the uniforms from 1893 had names on them?

Whatever gives you something to whine about... :hihi:

I want to know the name of the player. Most fans don't have every player's number memorized.

Yeah, i think USC's and Notre Dame's way of not having players names on the backs of uniforms is annoying... but them being annoying is traditional...

LSU players have had their names on their jerseys since 1972, so I guess you could say that it's a long-standing tradition. In any case, I prefer it. No matter how obscure the player, at least I know his last name.
