if he can manage and if he can recruit then sign him up. because top notch xs and os isnt necessary if you have a team full of La players with experience and a sprinkle of a stro, bass, tt, gdavis and greg monroe every couple years. just make sure the coach has better xs and os knowledge than dale.
If LSU hires Butch I will be a little disappointed but I will be willing to give him a chance - especially if he can keep the recruits for us... I just didn't think that the staff under Brady did a very good job recruiting & playing players enough to keep them from leaving for greener pastures.. Butch seems easier to like for sure... Brady was to hard to like...
i really think butch is a good coach and recruiter but it's time to blow this thing up and start new.
the administration wants the bball team to pack the PMAC. How do you do that? You go after a coach that will play an intense, up-tempo style of ball (o and d)... that being said, i don't think Tim Floyd fits that bill. He and brady come from similar coaching backgrounds, both playing sound D to win games and focusing on minimizing the other teams scoring. I love tim floyd and think he is a great coach, but i think that Skip will go after someone to really put some excitement into the program...the attendance this year has been dismal, even with the #5 team in town... i like: 1. Grant 2. Tubby Smith 3. Mike Anderson 4. Tim Floyd
This was talked about a little bit in the recruiting thread, so I'll bring it here. Sources tell me Butch Pierre will lose the "interim" tag soon and will sign a 4-5 year deal to be the men's head coach at LSU. This is in no way set in stone. That's just where they are leaning. Apparently DJ Augustin, Greg Monroe, Chris Duhon, etc... some of the notables lost by Brady all said they'd have come to LSU if Butch were the coach, so that is pushing them in the direction he is in.
So what is the deal with Monroe? He has not signed a LOI with Georgetown yet so could this give us another chance at him?
We'll see about recruiting. I'm not sure that is the best reason to hire a coach in basketball as you don't lock down a state like football. Apparently DJ was going to Carolina but Roy told him to put off his commitment for a couple weeks to see what Ty Lawson did, and we know the rest. But then again if he would have gone to LSU just because of an assistant that is pretty impressive.
With all due respect to Butch Pierre, handing the reigns to a long time assistant coach of the coach you just fired is not the way to go for a program that needs a serious shot in the arm, as this one does. Especially, if it is based on what teenagers, that didn't come here, said they would have done.
Here is a quote from Shaq: Who could they be lobbying for? http://www.nba.com/suns/news/tribune2_080214.html
