Alright kids, I told you to hold on tight... Indiana names Marquette's coach Tom Crean (certainly a good hoops mind but overrated IMO) as its new coach... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3324439 Tennessee's Bruce Pearl says he's going no where... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3324626 The sub-IU schools now know a little more what they can shoot at here :yelwink2:
i agree. without going into details and to prevent rumor-mongering i'll refrain except to say there may be some character issues as far as ford is concerned
Keep hope alive! Looks like the next few days will be VERY interesting... http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/17252849.html?showAll=y&c=y.
i was kinda hoping that ford was going to call an impromptu press conference before the NIT final saying that the rumors about the LSU job are not true.
I wonder if there have been any Alleva sightings today in the Alamodome... or the hotel suite nearby? Honestly, the news of the new AD is somewhat telling on the very convoluted LSU mens head coaching search. It appears no matter what the rumors are, having the AD in place became needed as a first step. And, according to Rosetta, not having the AD in place soured Anthony Grant on the gig. http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/17319444.html?showAll=y&c=y At some level, despite my general feeling that hiring this guy was a little unusual for LSU (i.e., hiring a guy that is about as far as being a "LSU guy" as you can get), I have to say, as a hoops fan, part of me has some hope that perhaps our AD will finally now care a little more about hoops. Afterall, that's what Duke knows right? Alleva's contacts in the hoops world, "growing up" watching the machine that was the Coach K dynasty has to be good for something. And, it's likely to help with not only identifying candidates, but also giving them some comfort that the new AD knows something about basketball. http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/17318909.html?showAll=y&c=y If this report is true, I'm intrigued if the field of candidates expands. Jeff Capel at Oklahoma has done an OK job. Mike Brey is a guy that I had identified as a legitimate "established" coach to consider--LA ties and could be someone who Butch could co-exist with. It's not a foregone conclusion that Travis Ford has accepted the job either... I'm looking forward to an exciting week! :thumb:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/cougars/2004334109_bennett08.html "Clemson coach Oliver Purnell is believed to be a prime target of LSU's search." hadnt heard his name mentioned before.
Hang on tight, my friends... There are LOTS of new names. Alleva's keepin' them guessing, I suppose. But... it's getting interesting! http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/17377299.html?showAll=y&c=y Bennett Grant  Pierre :yelwink2: Jones Brey  Now... Clemson's coach. Stanford's coach. Anyone care to get a poll going? Also... any results of the AR press conference at 10 a.m.?
Oliver Purnell is a miracle worker and can turn around any program. He has improved Clemson's win total every year with having good but not great talent. They had awful talent when he arrived. They went to the ACC Finals for the first time in 6.2 billion years this year and finished third in the ACC. At Clemson, that is a hell of a resume. He is easily regarded as one of the best up and coming coaches by ACC fans and coaches.
I dont know about that, before this year he hadnt really done anything overly impressive with Clemson.
