No problem. First of all sanctions very seldom ever work and usually just postpone the inevitable which usually leads to war. I don't see any way the USA can bully Syria and Iran. These are problems just like North Korea that don't have easy solutions. We have to stop somehow the hate teaching because it will breed like wildfire and all these minorities one day could become a majority. I think us entering Pakistan and that territory is a problem, could be a problem like we are now in Iraq. I don't think there is any way the American people will put up with war especially politics involved. I truely wish we could flip these countries like Egypt, etc but I aint going to happen, these countries fund, support and breed terrorist groups and we aren't going to be able to change that anytime soon. Especially Iran they are our worst enemy, we WILL be in a war sooner than later most people don't realize it. Even if we flipped Syria they could still sponser terror behind our backs. In no way did I want this thread to be all about my views btw, no talking about those that contributed! I'm not talking about killing anyone, mass murder? Disagree BTW I would think a little more seriously about this if I was president than I've written here before proceeding. I thought this was an interesting and kinda fun topic for discussion. Not saying that it would be fun to do this either.
That's how I interpreted it this thread. As a way to gain different perspective other than my own. Although I don't necessarily agree with your plan, I did post my own idea rather than just piling on yours. :thumb:
Yeah SD, sorry I helped get your thread off track. Accusing folks of promoting genocide gets me riled up a bit though. My plan, push to come up with alternative fuel sources within 10 years then pull out of the middle east and let them make war with each other as they always have.
I wasn't referring to you btw, others coming after me. I was actually pleased that you were making your points in my defense. I like your plan but I don't think it will work, its too late. Ever since the Carter days of the seventies America is their great satan. They will still attack and fight us here or there whether we leave or not. Its about us, our lifestyle and the infidels. I only wish this was possible and they would fight amongst each other!
Technically, yes. They were not unintentional collateral damage. Unlike our bombing of Germany, where we bombed in daylight and specifically attacked factories, transportation, and oil storage; in Japan we firebombed and destroyed the 64 largest cities in Japan with the intention of causing massive civilian casualties. 330,000 people were killed, 476,000 injured, 2.5 million buildings destroyed, and 8.5 million people made homeless. Official US figures of total Japanese civilian deaths are 580,000. 10 million is unsupprtable by any of the sources I looked at. The Japanese themselves claim only 2.3 million and that includes Korean and Chinese employees of Japan as well as deaths by disease blamed on war conditions. But WWII was a Total War and the Japanese had already ruthlessly killed 9 million Chinese and subjected Allied prisoners to torture. We stood ready to lose 1 million men in an invasion of Japan and the Japanese would have lost four or five times that many.
I say no. Our goal was not to destroy the Japanes race and inihilate their country. It was to pound them into submission, which we accomplished.
Well sanctions have worked before. They worked in the Balkans, they worked in Iraq in the 1990's, that's why there were no WMD's. Sanctions Have Gotten a Bum Rap We must use the carrot and the stick. Divide them, don't drive them together. Iran will be tough, but Syria is neither tough, nor spoiling for a fight. We must learn that not all muslims are alike and allied. Mostly they hate each other but will band together to oppose common enemies. We can exploit this if we are clever and willing to do what is needed. It can happen! Carter flipped Egypt and Reagan flipped Jordan. Syria only supports Hezbollah because they need Iranian oil. Hezbollah actually hinders Syria's efforts to influence Lebanon. Hezbollah are Shiites and not loved by Sunni Syrians. The new leader of Syria is not the socialist idealogue that his father was. He is a nationalist, but is not anti-western. His fight is with Israel and they want the Golan back. They know that the way to get it back is to be like Egypt, who got the Sinai back. They have given many signals that they want better relations with the US and the West. We can drive a wedge between Iran and Syria and we should do just that. Syria, like Iraq, has never been a home to Al Qaida. Syria's beef is with Israel, not the US and the terrorist they support are Palestinians, not Al Qaida.
And they had the power to stop it at any time. They did eventually, and are a thriving nation today, because our goal was not their total destruction. Had we continued, now that could and should be construed as genocide.
We can agree to disagree that they worked in Iraq and there were WMD's We've been through all of that on another thread. Sanctions were a failure in Iraq in the 90's because of 2 things. We had to eventually invade Iraq, the intel was there right or wrong. Oil for Food program, Look at all the money Saddam and people in power were able to obtain from the oil for food program, I saw it thanks to the news. I'm crossing my fingers on the rest of your post here hoping it works but I would say Syria could be a problem because of there beef with Israel but then again I support Israel because I am a christian conservative. Isn't terrorism still wrong, Syria to support Palestine who also uses kids and young girls to kill people. There beef may not be with the US but I still think its a war on terrorism and we should find a way to end it.
