Hey how 'bout............ QB-"Doc" Fenton, led LSU to it's "First" Nat'l Champ with a 10-0 record, I believe in 1908? P.S. on Lynn Amedee--My mom grew up as best friends with his wife, Judy, and my Dad was his center at Redemptorist High, 53-55. He was good, but I don't think all time great.
Also, don't forget....... SE-Carlos Carson (I can't believe anyone had him yet!) TE-Greg LaFleur (Had a long NFL career with the Cardinals) FB-Hokie Gajan (Gotta include Hokie!!!!!)
Re: Hey how 'bout............ Lynn Amedee played his HS ball for Istrouma, not Redemtorist and it was more like the late 50's or early 60's Add Doug Moreau to the list of receivers as well as kickers Sammy Grezaffi to the punt and kickoff returners Joe Labuzzo to the running backs Dennis Gaubatz to the linemen LSU has had a lot of great linebackers Nobody has mentioned George Bevan or Princeton Bardwell Mike Anderson was a great one. At Lee High he was not only both offensive and defensive player of the year, he was All-State in Basketball and won the state championships in both the shotput and the pole vault I really am still amazed that somebody that big could also be the best pole vaulter in the state. Almost all vaulters are wiry guys who weigh in at about 160 pounds Todd Kinchen as a kick returner and receiver deserves mentioning Wendall Harris at QB Fred Miller for both the O line and kicker Alvin Dark as RB even though he is better known for baseball I still can't believe Nacho Albergamo went undrafted at the O line Jimmy Taylor At fullback is in the NFL Hall of Fame Willie Teal at DB even though he is in the highlight film getting juked out of his jock as the last tackler on Tony Dorsett's 99 yard longest run from scrimmage in NFL history on Monday Night Football Mike Hillman at QB led the Tigers to a Peach Bowl victory over Florida State in 1968 Terry Robiske at RB Andy Hamilton at WR He was Bert Jones cousin and was Bert's main target Eddie Fuller at RB who caught the Earthquake pass against Auburn Devery Henderson deserves mention even though he hasn't been a WR for that long just for The Bluegrass Miracle (or The Immaculate Reception II) Michael Clayton will be a Hall of Famer if he ever gets a QB who can deliver the ball Norman Jefferson at DB was the Lowsman Trophy winner The Lowsman Trophy goes to the last player taken in the NFL draft but he made the Show as have a number of other Lowsman winners Carlos Carson caught 5 TDs in the Tigers 77-0 win over Rice and went on to a good NFL career Jeremy Witten was a great pooch punter Dominick Davis for not only his all around ability but also for the 4 touchdowns in the Sugar Bowl with a 5th TD nullified by a penalty just like most of his great punt and kickoff returns this year Lebrandon Toefield for the sheer guts of coming back again and again from severe injuries Rohan Davey who could have led the Tigers to a much better season this year if he had had 1 more year of eligibility Even without Josh Reed LSU had the receivers to make a QB like Davey an All American Davey was just growing into the position and getting better and better with each game Bill Arnsparger is a coach who would have won the Naional Championship if he would have stuck around a couple of more years Charlie McClendon for being a winner and a class human being Nick Saban who WILL win a National Championship if he stays at LSU long enough Paul Dietzel whose legacy we have been waiting 44 years to repeat All the Tiger fans who make Tiger Stadium such a great place to be on Saturday night Dennis Quaid for his role in Everybody's All American
Don't forget Nelson Stokely at QB He led the Tigers to their last Sugar Bowl win in 1967 until last year
How about the good folks at Budweiser, Jack Daniels and others too numerous to mention who help make Saturday night in Tiger Stadium so great Jimmy Beam My Old Grandad Johnny Walker and his pals Black and Red Welcome to Miller Time and our Russian friends Stolichnaya and Smirnov When the Tigers win it all they will get the Royal Crown
Now I might be off a year here or there.... but I could swear that Amedee played at RHS. I know Cannon played at IHS. My folks grew up in that neighborhood, and everyone either went to Redemptorist (all the Catholics), or Istrouma (everyone else). They all hung out together, but I really thought Amedee went there. Maybe I'm mistaken.
