Johnnyreb...Being a friend of some former individuals who actually owned sportsbooks...There is such a thing as a "teaser"... A game that "gets you in the door"... It's a game that you know you can make your weekend with, and the house hopes that they can get some other action out of you along with that game... They set lines artificially low all the time. It's not just a "fair" asessment of which team will win...It's to make money... They get action on that line from real gamblers because they all know that the game's not going to be that close...Lots of action on both sides assures the House's take... You have lots to learn before you go using Vegas as an example to back up Ole Miss...
That's got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen on a board like this. Are you telling me that all the sports books in Vegas have conspired together to artificially lower the poinyspread on the Ole miss LSU game in order to generate other betting action. Is this what you're saying?
I think you are misunderstanding his explaination, that by the way is 100% correct. Vegas creates a line to gererate action, not by who, or by how much, will win a game. To be truthful they could probably give a rats ass who wins, they want equal action on both sides, so if nothing else they get paid on the juice. This game for example, let's say the line had LSU as a 17 point fav. against Ole miss who is perfect to date in conference play. Well this line may be much more accurate as to what the final score may be, but very few betters, outside of LSU fans, would be willing to risk a 17 point spread. In this case all of the action is on one side of the line, meaning the house is at a huge risk of getting burned. This is why the lines sometimes appear low, to get equal bets on both sides.
Southern Miss being favored by 3 against number 9 TCU really plays into this theory. I guess the money boys had to be convinced on that one. The number 9 team vs. unranked So. Miss, need to generate some action on TCU. No the line is the experts best guess at what the final score will be, and if money pours in on one side or the other the spread changes, LSU opened at +7. So be it. I feel sorry for those who may be disapionted by a last minute LSU win and not a 50 point blowout. A turnover could change the outcome of the game.
Johnnyreb. You counter every point someone makes then get all high and mighty and pissed off when an LSU fan says something pro-LSU. This is an LSU board. If you don't like it, haul your butt to a friendly Rebel Board. Or state your case and shut the hell up.
I think the key to the game is Mike Mauck. If he is as sharp as he has been the last few weeks, I think LSU scores at least 30 pts and maybe much more. Ole Miss is only allowing 3.1 yards per rush. They may have a small defensive line, but they have a decent run defense. They have a very porous pass defense. With the Tigers's many playmakers they have a chance to make the OM D look real bad. It will come down to whether Mauck can get them the ball.
I appreciate a least 2 post responses without insults. Your points are good and there's no debate that LSU is more physical than Ole Miss. I would debate your statement that LSU has better recievers than we do. We're quite good and experinced. Our losses to TT and Mephis do'nt look as bad now as they did both are going to bowls and TT has given everybody problems. Luck, we had some against Auburn, but we could have won against TT and Memphis had we held onto touchdown passes. Wouldn't that have been neat 10-0 Rebels vs 9-1 Tigers. 16 hours till kick off, can't wait.
