One thing, don't pee in public. Contrary to what you might see, smell, hear or fall in, urinating in public is not allowed in New Orleans. Remember, Party Gravy isn't a good thing...
I was just thinking about Mothers. It has been years since I have been there. But it sticks out in my mind. Mespero is also very good. Don't forget just because a place looks nice does not mean it will be good and just because it looks like the health department might shut it down it will be bad. Look for where the Tiger fans go remember we like to EAT amoung other things.
Some places i would recommend Cooter Browns - Great bar with good greasy food Serios - great po boys and college football atmosphere. Talk the owner he is hilarious Mothers - More great po boys Storyville - go at night for good food and great live blues Maspero's - Great food
N.O. Stuff Years ago I found myself in a situation where I was walking back from Cafe Dumonds at about 2:30am. I knew I had to walk all the way to and across Canal St. and about two blocks further to get to my hotel. What I did was during the whole walk I had my arms flailing wildly above my head and I was talking incoherently out loud to myself. Believe me, everybody thought I was a nut and nobody is going to hassle or mug a nut. Their just not worth it.
Cooter Browns has the best beer selection of any bar I've been in anywhere. I couldn't believe, however, the last time I was there earlier this year that they have the crappiest beer in that very last cooler on the far right-hand side of the bar---Schlitz, etc. Who goes to a place like Cooters and orders THAT stuff? Seriously, Sooner fan, do yourselves a favor and (a) travel in groups at night and, for your own sake, (b) never hesitate to ask an LSU fan for help if you aren't sure of where you're headed or think you're getting turned around or lost while in the downtown area. Luckily for you, most purple and gold-clad fans know their way around and can help. See, aren't you glad you're not playing SC in New Orleans?
Re: N.O. Stuff Defintely hit Cat's Meow, Razoo's, Rick's Cabaret, and Larry Flint's Hustler Club. Best breakfast is Petunia's. If you into movie's the I-max is the bomb!!
The hoodlums will be out looking for the easy prey. Dont venture to far off of the main streets in the quarter, no telling how far away you will have to park. When walking to Bourbon, travel with a group and bring some protection. I dont know and it wont really matter how many fans from OK will be making the trip, you will be severely outnumbered by the tune of more than half a million or more LSU fans down in the quarter, so be prepared for catching some ribbin and flak like you cant even imagine right now. If you can accept alot of that, you will have a great time, but the words "Tiger Bait" will ring in your ears for a very long time.
Don't send a tourist to the Goldmine. You will taint the sanctuary that the home crowd has. Plus, if they miss it, they will be quickly approaching Rampart. Bad News. Rule of Thumb. Do not walk N (away from the river) past Bourbon. That will keep you safe. Everything you need in the Quarter is between the river and Bourbon).
Better call now if you want a reservation at Commander's Palace (5-star). Also, Emeril's and Emeril's Delmonico are very, very good in the high price arena.
