hehehehehehe Seriously, You've GOT to have a Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's.....but do NOT overdo it on the Hurricanes.....trust me. I've seen 300+ lb men completely incapacitated after drinking more than 1.5-2 of those things.....they seem fine at first, but BAM! (as Emeril would say). By the way, you should try Emeril's or Commander's Palace. Acme Oyster House on Iberville Street (intersects w/ Bourbon) is also a great place to eat. They're all pricey, though. Enjoy and if an NOPD officer tells you to do something (such as stand back, etc.)....do NOT argue with them! It's almost like a Banana Republic with those cops! They mean business, and they're not into letting people off that easily. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are walking down Bourbon Street and all of a sudden you relize all the bars are all men and one of them is taking a shower in the window of a bar. You have gone to far turn around and do not make any eye contact. BTW If you hear a whistle it is not for your date.
One of my favorite places in New Orleans is the National D-Day museum. If there is a rainy/really cold day you would do yourself a favor by visiting it. I also believe the Fairgrounds wil be in season. I think that it is the second oldest horsetrack in the nation behind Churchhill Downs. Another interesting thing to do woul be to take the streetcar down St. Charles Ave. and see the gorgous homes. As far as the parties, don't wory about that...they will find you. However, as a tourist you really need to check out the piano bar at Pat O'briens. Take Pas Bon's advice with the cops. ALWAYS do exactly what they tell you and you'll be fine.
Geez, not to mention that it had to be one of the longest. How long did THAT take you? That's almost one end of town to the other.
The drink tour would include Hurricanes at Pat O'Briens, Hand Grenades at Tropical Isle, Dr Peppers at The Goldmine... off the top of my head. For eats I recommend Mothers on Poydras (cafeteria type, Po Boys etc) and Bayona on Dauphine. Port of Call is good too. Personal preference. Tons of places to eat and drink.
