I thought white was our official home color. Therefore we would never have to worry about MSU telling us we can't wear it at home. Maybe someone can clarify.
I concur LSU could go out there in their practice jerseys cause the stomping they'll put on the Bulldogs doesn't constitute dirtying our game jerseys. LSU - 38 MSU - 10 :geauxtige
While the NCAA rules require the home team getting approval to wear white jerseys at home, SEC rules require the road team to agree when a conference team makes the request. The rule was made by the SEC after our game vs Vandy in '96. This means no SEC team can force LSU to wear anything other than white at home. Spurrior tried to do so in '99, but couldn't, so he had to settle for having the Tigers wear purple at Florida Field in '00. So, no, LSU cannot deny State's desire to wear white. Of course, the irony is that it was the State game in '82 that started all this nonsense. The Steerpups forced a very good LSU team to wear purple in Jackson and won. Nebraska saw the film, found out that LSU was superstitious about purple and forced us to wear it in the Orange Bowl. The result was a 21-20 loss for the Tigers. The next year, the NCAA forced home teams to wear dark and the white jerseys disappeared from Tiger Stadium. One of the oddest things I have seen was the '83 game vs AMAB, where we wore purple in Tiger Stadium, during the day, and AMAB wore white helmets. It just didn't look right. Of course, the important thing is for the scoreboard to look right tomorrow night--LSU 42 - State 6 GEAUX TIGERS Thorny
visiting team gets the choice in OOC games for SEC, home team get the choice for conference games. Hence in 2004 when Oregon St. forced us to wear purple for home opener.
Home teams are required to wear dark jerseys for all games unless they get permission from the visiting team to wear white. OSU did not give us permission. We gave MSU permission to wear white tonight. DiNardo got that rule changed to allow us to wear white at home.
I hope that we wear Purple!!! We have a new tradition of wearing purple twice a year against cupcakes at home. Why not extend that tradition to cupcakes on the road?
