No, this movie was made quite a long time ago. The guy he portrayed killed himself a couple of years ago, was cremated, invited a huge celebrity list to his "funeral" where his ashes were shot out of a cannon. Of course, this wasn't in the movie, but it's a damn good hint.

A google search confirms Hunter S Thompson did have his remains shot from a cannon. Movie title, eh, I have no clue. I'm waiting for something from the last 10-15 years, because before that I was 5 and don't really remember too much.
