Two that were very overrated are Ed Marinaro (Cornell U. and Heisman runnerup) and Brian Bosworth in the pros.
Are we talking "all-time" overrated or present day?? I can't really think of many all-timers, but presently, Urlacher tops the list of over-rated players...
Both "all-time" and present day. I agree with you that Urlacher is one of the most overrated current players, I think Ray Lewis is too. Ray Lewis and Urlacher are both good players but they aren't "all-world" like sports announcers and reporters make them out to be.
Urlacher is over-rated in more than one department. He wasn't man enough to keep Paris Hilton satisfied.
How many players who have to actually play against and try to block them have voted them to the Pro Bowl. To me that is the testament to how good they really are. No one wants to have to block Lewis all game long. Gino wasn't overrated he was just chosen for the Heisman because of his leading the Canes to a National Championship. If he was way overrated he would have been selected high in the draft. There are one heck of a lot of players who were drafted number one that are much more overrated than many of the names mentioned here, like Andre Ware, David Klongler, Tom Cousineau(even though I liked that name!!!), Lindsay Scott(along with many other high draft picks the Saints made).
Most Overrated: 1. Brian Bosworth - all hype coming out of Oklahoma. Career virtually ended when Bo Jackson left tank-tread marks on The Boz's belly, rolling over him on a 90-yd TD run on MNF. 1A. Tony Mandarich - the second overall pick in the 1989 draft behind Troy Aikman, this all-world monster offensive tackle from Michigan State lapsed into serious mediocrity once he reached the NFL and found that he couldn't juice up like he had at MSU.
