I accept your offer to Rescind your National Championship in College Football for the 1957 football season. Given the fact that Auburn won no such championship in 2004, this reduces Auburn's title number to ZERO. Unfortunately, LSU has two such titles since WWII: one in 1958 and 2003. I guess I don't get it.... Why would someone want to belittle a championship that they so desperately want to attain? Us Hawkeyes would like one, too... may never happen... but we respect those who have done it. It's kinda like showing respect for your Forefathers.
Hawker... Michigan goes 12-1 this year...wins the Rose Bowl and BCS championship...but loses on their homefield in the process... Iowa goes 13-0 the very next year, wins the Orange Bowl but it just so happens 2 other teams are playing in the Fiesta... Michigan fans come over to your message board telling you how you are never going to win a national championship, how they are so much better than you, and u will never be that good. All of this after you went 13-0 and they went 12-1. Lets see you show them respect for what they did. Think you would be able to do it? p.s. one good thing that came out of it is i discovered tigerforums for good football talk (even though I'm not sure which memebers came over to AUnation to talk smack)
Aubie.... first, be safe as Dennis approaches. 2) My son is an Auburn grad, works for me in Tampa... so I get to hear the Auburn saga quite often. The system creates victims (especially over the past couple of years) and therein lies the flaw. 3) Your scenario almost happened two years ago for Iowa. Had we not blown a 24-7 halftime lead against Iowa State, we would have been undefeated, along with tOSU and Miami... and I can almost assure you tOSU and Miami would still have been the title game. 4) The fact remains this unperfect system is the one we "got"... and I have tremendous respect for teams who played through the system and won a championship. 5) Btw, Michigan fans have been coming on our site for years telling us how we suck... I doubt if that will ever change even if we win a NC... in which case BigBlue will tell us we were simply lucky that they had an off year. Again, had you played for it and won it, or us, we would hardly be calling it mythical. So, to not win it... and claim it is mythical anyway... kinda sounds like sour grapes, don't you think?
I have always referred to the NC in football as the "mythical NC", including Auburn's in 1957. EVERY SINGLE NC in football ever awarded in Div. 1 is mythical, and often fraught with controversary, because they are determined by computers, sportswriters, etc. Rarely is there unanimous opinion on who the NC is. I am not trying to slam any school who currently has an "NC" in FB but to me they will all be mythical until we have a playoff to determing the NC like we do in allmost all other sports. The FB NC is currently tainted by money and the media, and was long before any controvery arose about Auburn's 13-0 record in 2004.
