Why would anyone assume that Bama would not pony up top dollar? I think they can and will for the right person. I don't think Saban or Spurrier would be a good fit for Bama, but each would probably take $5 million a year to find out. Bama needs someone who is not going to move along at the next good offer.
I never said they wouldn't. All I said was that I didn't think he would leave unless he got a deal like that. At any rate, if the offer was $5 million, it would be a lateral move for Saban. If I'm not mistaken, I think that's what he's making now.
Saban is not going to leave the dolphins to coach Bama. I am sure Bama contacted his agent but i bet that is the extent of situation. It will be interesting to see who will coach for them.. Here is a list of a few mentioned on tidesports.com.. There are at least six possibilities for the Alabama job, none of which have a direct link to the school: Rutger's Greg Schiano, former Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez, Tulsa's Steve Kragthorpe, Wake Forest's Jim Grobe, Cal's Jeff Tedford and Navy's Paul Johnson. -- tidesports.com
I think Bama fans would be better suited trying to go for a jim grobe or even bobby pretrino. Spurrier and saban...not happening.
Would you like to be our new head football coach? Saban: " Uh, no. Thanks, but no." Spurrier: " Not even for $10 Million dollars" Butch Davis: "Ummmm, nope, too much pressure" Frank Beamer: "I already tol' you people, No!" Petrino: "And leave all this?...no way!" Schiano: "Nope, I'm headed to The U" Alvarez: "Uh uhn, I'm takin' the AD position at The U" Norm Chow: "No thank you, Arizona State is calling" man, it sure is entertaining to listen to the meltdown  .... and the wheel is turning, and turning, ......:hihi: Besides, it's going to be Rich Rodriguez in the end. Latest bumper sticker seen in Tuscaloosa: "Honk If You've Been Offered the Head Coaching Job at Alabama"
I still think they should look at Art Briles. (I really do think he is an up and coming coach) AND he is already familiar with the uniform color. Bama needs a college coach who is use to handling kids, rather than a pro coach where players are handled differently and for a large part the players have to discipline themselves.
Once Shula understood that he had to make changes, he made the call to Jimbo. Shula never had the opportunity to make this move. I still stand by my sources saying it is Saban's to turn down and they are also going after Spurrier.
True...it's Saban's to turn down. Feelers were put out to SOS and he didn't want the contract that long...which tells me he won't be the HC at USC much longer...wants to turn a program over to his son. ( See Lou and Skip Holtz) Contracts in Alabama can only go 7...and it isn't 3 mill...but it's close...and it isn't an offer, it was the figure given to the gentleman I refered to earlier out of Colorado to start floating.
The fact they even mentioned Sabans named made me laugh out loud... That is some clueless thinking there. Yeh Saban is going to leave all that to come BACK to the SEC let alone at LSU's rival. Bama fans, I know you like to think everyone jumps at the hope they may be the coach at Bama. But Saban is not coming to Alabama, nor anywhere in the SEC. If he ever returns to NCAA see Penn State or Va Tech.
