A lot of this is the LeBron factor...

Can he make up that $40M in endorsements just by being in NY?

20% when dealing with those huge numbers and 50% taxes its a huge amount.

first thing I thought of. you know he wouldnt be there as long as arod stayed with the rangers. would be a similar (or)deal.

sox or yanks would scoop him up at slight discount.

heres a pretty good article but even better is the sox fans in meltdown with comments at the bottom:

i would think its closer to the beltran houston/ny deal. does teix have a personality worthy of endorsements?

not really. much like beltran. zero personality on the screen.

While I agree 100% that Tex doesn't seem like the Jim Carrey of the MLB, you never know until their on the tube once.

Who woulda thought Manning would become the commercial whore he is.

He's a fairly good looking dude. No teeth missing or anything. lol

I might add that I have been tongue tied in this thread and that he'd be going to BOSTON for $160M and not NEW YORK.

So my examples were a little flawed, even though being a Red Sox is just as highly marketable than any other athlete.

    How long is the contract?
Boston has said all along that they will not go 10 years on an offer. So the Nats may have gone 10 years at 20 mil.
After 8 years, he'll be 37. Will he still be hitting well enough to land a contract at 20 mil per for the next 2 seasons? If not, take it now.

As far as Lowe, the Sox can live without him, and have done so since the '05 season. Just would be a nice addition. Not too scared of the Yanks.
They're paying Burnett an assload to ride the DL, and CC to implode in October. Especially if he has to pitch every other game inSeptember like he did last season.

Was listening to MLB Homeplate just now.
Insider (didn't catch his name) says the Sox are just calling Boras' bluff.
Says Boras calims to have a 10 year offer on table.
Sox are sure they don't, and feel like their offer is the best he's got so far.

    We'll find out eventually.

Boston is in a pretty decent bargaining position since they can just say hey we'll keep Mike Lowell instead.

Lowell is solid, but Teixeira is a 30 HR, 100 RBI guy every year, except his Rookie season.
Lowell has only done that once.
However, Lowell was pretty much built to play in a park like Fenway.
