State has something to prove and nothing to lose. We have the talent to beat them, but it's never easy to win on the road in the SEC and if we catch them fired up and we do the "coming out flat" routine . . . State could ruin our season. The Tigers need to get excited about the SEC opener and play with all they've got. Not every game we play this year is going to be a runaway. We may have to win this one in the 4th quarter again.
I can't decide yet, if I'm expecting a close win or a blow out, ala that Thursday night game in '07. I feel like the character of this team is much stronger than it's been since '07 (and possibly stonger than then, too.) Last night, our guys treated the NW State game as the glorified scrimmage it needed to be. They worked on getting the job done and seemed very professional. All that said, they WILL be up for their first SEC game. I could tell last night that they wanted the challenge of true competition. They'll have that Thursday night, though I swear that MSU yesterday reminded me of MSU teams of yesteryear (and forever). How on earth did Relf not will himself to score that TD? Do you think our guys would've been denied @ the one-inch line? I don't...
Auburn's youth is rapidly improving, as they should be doing between weeks one and two. I believe LSU will benefit greatly from what was a very physical contest .... the Bullies are one helluva banged-up team right now, especially Relf. Big advantage to LSU ..... you can thank AU later :thumb:
Very surprised that Miss St. didn't get their D together in the second half. Mullens knows offense and considering personnel does a great job. But man, those boys seem to be missing Manny Diaz. Never underestimate the value of a great DC. But I don't have to tell you guys.
Mullen's playcalling was arrogant and foolish to the very end. He vastly underrated his opponent while overrating his own advantages, .... and Auburn's special teams play was something that MSU was wholly unprepared for. The last 17 snaps that MSU ran from the gun were 3+ yd gains ... and AU was in heavy nickel for each of those sets. So what does Mullen do? ... he puts Relf under center and tries to run the ball in, knowing that if he doesn't make it there's no remaining time for another snap. Auburn D shifted when they saw Relf under center ..... game, set, match. What a chump. MSU deserves Mullen (and his mouth)
I don't think it matters one way or another whether MSU won or lost. They can be as pumped up and emotional as they want, but it doesn't change the fact that this is a terrible match up for MSU. If the read option didn't work last week for Oregon, I highly doubt MSU will be any more successful.
We'll be thanking AU later this season, believe me! Enjoy the wins over the cream puffs, it's about to get tougher for AU.:thumb:
