Agreed! And as much as high-octane offense are fun to watch, I'd much, MUCH rather have what WE HAVE at LSU: A tradition of NASTY DEFENSES! Offense wins games Defense wins CHAMPIONSHIPS For our defense to be as effective and dominant, you can't have this Texas Tech/Oregon style of fast-paced, no-huddle offense and STILL be at peak effectiveness as a defense. I think you'll see more passing from the offense when we aren't playing such "high tempo" opponents. Oregon and MSU use no-huddles...you've GOT to control the clock some and give your defense time to rest--even if that means looking "vanilla" running power-I time and again. That formula has worked to perfection (and "perfection" should be judged by "W's") vs Oregon and MSU: smash them in the mouth with the power running game. Keep their offenses off the field. You'll keep the game close, yes, but in the end, come mid-3rd Quarter and onward, you hit them with the passing and pull away having worn them down.
19-6 is a very respectable win against the #25 team at their house especially coming off a loss. However that doesn't excuse the play calling. They are totally separate issues. Especially considering that this was probably the best LSU QB performance in the last 5 years. The play calling was extremely predictable and slanted towards the run the first three quarters even though Lee was lights out. Hopefully the offensive staff will look at the film and gain confidence in Lee's ability while also realizing that they did a very poor job keeping the MSU D off balance. You don't have a QB playing the way Lee did tonight and not take advantage of it, that's just insane. Not to mention the fact that MSU stacked the box on almost every play for the first three. I would be shocked if Miles and Stud don't come out and say they need to mix it up better in the future.
I have faith that CLM and staff will do just this. I think they needed to see that Lee could do it, and Lee proved that he can against a respectable SEC defense in a hostile environment. I look for the offense to open things up going forward. One step at a time. Meanwhile, this defense is the real deal. :geauxtige

I think that Les is playing it safe for a few reasons 1. Let Lee get his confidence going like he did tonight. 2. Let the young WRs get their feet wet. 3. He does not have to take chances with a brick wall defense.
The fast paced offense is a flawed concept. What good is a fast offense? It's good for keeping your defense on the field way too long during the game. You have to score at least 50 just to stay in the game. An offense that pounds the ball, gives the defense time to rest and be fresh when they come out on the field is what I think works. It may be lower scoring, but I'll take it.

I agree 100%. I'll take LSU-style football over that fast-paced crapola. This defense is the real deal and look how we've worn down our first three opponents, two of which are in the top 25. Can't argue with that. :geauxtige
