Let's try this again. Fairly damning evidence against those who say Davis has "turned it around". My bad.
If you guys where here and involved where the rubber meets the road you would feel differently. People are in the stands more than before, Davis has UAB being noticed and talked about more than Anderson ever did. Anderson was a divider, Davis is a uniter. Anderson left when it was convenient for him, his entire starting lineup graduated and Davis was left with nothing. Anderson's recruiting was weak, Davis is getting top players and had the 9th rated class in the country his first year. This years class will be rated higher. Thats better than Anderson or Bartow ever did. Looking from afar at records is deceiving but when you live in a city that is dominated by bammers, getting UAB noticed, talked about and attended is nothing short if miraculous. Im not saying we should hire Davis but discounting him based on little knowledge of his attributes is ignorant.
yeah. you have such rich knowledge. That UAB class this year is flawless. There is nothing wrong with none of the players. that's also because they have no commitments. http://uab.rivals.com/commitlist.asp scroll to 2008.
They do have DeMarcus Cousins, #5 overall for 2009. But Clair I'm totally with you, I do not want Davis.
Butch is a better recruiter than anyone out there for hire. The kids love him. Greg Monroe said in a story a few weeks back that he would have considered everything differently had he known Butch would have been his HC.
Obviously I know enough to realize you're looking at the wrong page. They already have the number 5 player in the country committed who had offers from Florida, Kentucky and North Carolina among others. They will have a top 5 class when all is said and done, Maybe even a top 3 class. Add that to last years class that was ranked ahead of the likes of Duke and you have what amounts to a miracle for UAB. If you are passing judgment on Davis because of his past record than you are being naively narrow minded. How many coaches have been hired with what looked to be bad records, and even some with losing records, and been very successful? How many coaches who followed a legend where successful? You need to do a little more research in your sports reporting studies Clair. Simple records dont tell the worth of a coach. If that were the case people like Carroll and Popovich would never have been hired to begin with. Maybe even someone like Les Miles wouldnt have made the cut with your criteria.
It don't even bug me that you want Mike Davis. You're entitled to your own opinion. That's fine. It bugs me that you use words like "Ignorant and naive," etc... when YOU are the one who doesn't know what you're talking about. Those are big-league words for someone who is hitting .170 in AA ball. You said and I paraphrase "They had a top 10 class and this year's will be better." What year is it? 2008, I think, right? THIS YEAR'S class they have ZERO, NADDA, ZIP commitments. I understand they have a 5-star committed for the 09 class. Great. That's awesome. Let's see if he makes it to campus. There is a lot of time between now and then for a big school to take him away. You said UAB is a traditional bottom-feeder. They're not. Another Lie. UAB made the postseason in 1980, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 89, 1990, 91, 92, 93, 94, 97, 98, 99, 2003, 04, 05, 06 and 07. That's 22 of the past 27 years. In that run, they've had 3 runs making it at least to the Sweet 16. LSU hasn't even had as much success as they have. You say the past coach has alienated high school coaches and was a "divider." I don't know of his personal contacts with people, but I do know he has signed more Alabama-region players than Davis has. In Anderson's run, the recruiting was as such: In 2002 (Anderson's 1st year), they signed 5 guys, 1 from Alabama , 1 from Florida and 1 from Georgia. So that's 3 guys in the region. 2003 they signed 4 guys, 3 of which were from Alabama. 2004, they signed 2 guys, 1 from Georgia. 2005, they signed 3 guys, 1 from Mississippi. So in Davis' 4 recruiting classes, he signed 14 guys and 8 of them came from the "region" of Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia that they feed from. In 2006 (Davis' 1st class), they signed 5 guys, 3 from Alabama In 2007, they signed 6 guys, 1 from the region in Florida. In 2008, they've signed no one. So that's 11 guys and only 4 from the "region". So the coaches apparently didn't dislike Anderson THAT bad. How is THAT for research, buddy? Next time be forewarned to not go this far in a losing battle.
