Your being naive Clair. Davis was always handcuffed at Indiana. Just look at how he has recruited to UAB, of all places. Just read what kids say about him. He has matured 10 fold as a coach since Indiana and is working a miracle at crappy UAB. He is a good choice.
that "crappy" UAB destroyed LSU in the NCAA long before Davis. They also made an Elite 8 run (I think) and at least a Sweet-16 run. they haven't gotten better since he has been there. And if we're paying attention to what the kids are saying, then Butch gets a 100 year deal at LSU.
the recruiting to uab is what scares most people. he has never been known as the ncaa's finest rules observer...though he is a nice guy. but some of his recruits are scary people. ie) cousins and i dont think uab was a miracle job for him. some big 12 coach did the dirty work, which included three straight ncaa tounry visits before leaving.
Your wrong man. UAB's elite 8 run was 20 plus years ago. UAB was a doormat for many years and was about to become another one after their coach left for Missou. Davis has Bham fans taking notice of UAB which has been a rarity and he is recruiting lights out. He is energizing a small fan base into a large fan base which at UAB has been an impossible task.
And the entire starting lineup graduated when he left. Davis has worked wonders with what was left behind, which was nothing.
02-03: 21-13, 8-8 NIT 03-04: 22-10, 12-4 Sweet 16 04-05: 22-11, 10-6 NCAA 2nd Round 05-06: 24-7, 12-2 NCAA 1st Round Talk about a doormat... And you speak of recruiting. You don't think any of this recruiting has something to do with Anderson's work to put the school on the map?
Put the big picture in context and you will see that UAB has been a doormat for 90% of the programs existence. Anderson alienated high school coaches and did absolutely ZERO to put UAB on the recruiting map. Davis meanwhile has started running successful camps, being visible in the community and at High Schools and takes every single speaking engagement asked. The guy has matured beyond belief.
how? lol that's UAB's numbers BEFORE Davis got there, just showing that all he is doing is riding another coaches success like he did at Indiana.
