Part of why the depression lasted so long was because people were afraid to spend their money, that is not why it happened. Also, with bank failures people lost confidence in the system - which is why I said the FDIC was so vital. Money has a value of its own based on its supply, but it also has a value that we assign it (so actually it is more). A part of the puzzle you aren't seeing was the actions of the Federal Reserve which continued to hurt the economy. Social Security & welfare were not a part of restoring confidence in the dollar. It wasn't just the rapid industrialization of WW2, but also the enormous government spending.
you have no real evidence to support this. You can only guess. You'd have to do some research and polls. You just are parroting what you've heard politicians say and surmise to be true. Economic hiring indicators are more complex than that. Some employers would hire less. Some might hire more based on the company's profits, if it coincided with more productivity. Higher wage might just accidnetly bring MORE profit to the bottom line. Some would pass it on to the consumer. There's alot of ways it would play out. We've had minumum wage hikes before now. Did mass unemployment ensue afterwards? History indicates it remained about the same. study some then come back and see us. thanks and have a great day.
Yes, evidence does exist - it is called economics & there is a whole science dedicated to it. I don't parrot at all & I sure as hell don't do it from politicians. There is absolutely no logic to this higher productivity or profits stuff because of higher minimum wages. Please attempt to show us how it is possible. Economics shows us otherwise. I didn't say mass, and it definitely would not be mass, but it would happen. I am quite sure I know as much or more about economics than any person on this board besides possibly brokerrookie who is an mba econ professor. It is you who fails to understand the concepts, not I.
I do remember where I came from. One generation ago my family was sweeping dirt floors in their one room shack and no one ever gave them anything. That's why what my parents earned I want to protect from the government who will redistribute all of their hard work to somebody else who has no intention of working and earning. There is a lifeline for people down on their luck......and it has nothing to do with whether or not they have a PH.D. I don't have a PH.D and no one in my family does. Hell only 17% of Louisianians have a college degree. The problem is with people like you, this country doesn't promise everyone a house in CCL, or a home above the average home price of $230,000. But everyone feels it is their right now to have a new car, new home. Poor in this country now is not what poor like my family is from bud. Poor now you have eletricity, 2 TV's, 3 cell phones, 2 cars and free food from the government. When my parents were growing up they had no electricity, a dirt floor.......so you get a clue and teach someone you love to go to school like they taught us.
Don't know all the details (as in exceptions, who it applies to etc) of this, but these potential loopholes should be used more often by employers. Link to DOL
