Anyone who can catch the LSU pregame show, it'll be live at 12:50 cst. In BR, it's 98.1 fm. ESPN News will probably carry it, too.
It's called wishful & selective thinking. I have to say, I'm not Miles' biggest fan as a coach (although I do like him a lot), but I feel pretty relieved about all of this. We need stability. Plus, I feel like we'll be able to retain Crowton for a long time.
This is where fans drive me nuts. As a huge Michigan fan I was hoping for Les to come back to his roots because he's our only experienced alum that could have put spice back into the program. The big-time donors wanted him and we assumed it was a done deal. This morning at 10 am: Michigan fan: "Woo hoo, we got Miles. Watch out Ohio State. HELL YEAH!" LSU fan: "To hell with Miles. He sucked. Now we can start winning." Two hours later: Michigan fan: "I hate Miles. We don't want that headcase anyway!" LSU fan: "Now we can continue to build the dynasty! I love Les!" Please, everyone on both sides needs to take a pill. If Les wants to stay for the money then some of his credibility is shot based on what he's said for the past 10 years. If ESPN just blew their source as credible, then obviously they are in the tank. We may never know what happened. However, no matter the coach for either of these programs, we know we can recruit and continue to compete for conference and national championships. So best of luck to LSU, but everyone on both sides needs to think rationally.
I think the real culprit was Desmond Howard. Supposedly, he was on the search committee ... and he happens to work for ESPN. He couldn't break it on air, so they let Herbie do it. Of course, tiga broke the news here a long time ago.:hihi:
No, I think he just realized that he's got a better job right now than your school could offer him. And by that, I do not mean 'more money.' The man may be guilty of making some questionable decisions on the football field, but he certainly bucked that trend today.
Jon Wangler has been his best friend for 30 years. He's relayed many times straight from Les' mouth that he would take the Michigan job if ever offered. I'm not saying the money is the entire reason, I think some of it is that there are plenty in the administration, including Mary Sue Coleman (President) as well as Lloyd Carr that did not want anything to do with Miles. If he wasn't going to feel welcome then I'm sure that also had something to do with it. LSU has a helluva program, and sure I'm biased, but I don't think you can say any program in this country offers more than Michigan does.
