Last season: B+ This season: B- This season's lowlight was the 3 points we scored at Auburn. This coaching staff didn't trust their super frosh RBs and it cost us by the time we played Auburn. Keiland Williams (and Scott for that matter) should have been throw n into the fire in the very first game of the season preparing him for Auburn. The Florida loss is much more acceptable because we turned the ball over so much. The Auburn loss was etrocious. The game should have never come down to some officials calls. Wasted defensive effort by LSU. My big issue: you got A/A- talent with a B- coach. I don't like that combination. We're gonna waste some great opportunities at NC title hopes (we already did this season with the loss at Auburn...a 1 loss LSU (to Florida) would be right in the mix with USC and Michigan for the right to play OSU right now.
"Granny" Holtz is whacked, but I happen to agree with him on this particular point. Now, that doesn't mean I believe it is Mile's fault, but it is Mile's responsibility. Many people forget the level of experience and leadership LSU lost along the LOS prior to the season....... not an easy thing to replace. Next season, when LSU has the winning trifecta of athletes, experience, and a favorable schedule, LSU fans will be thinking Miles is one of the gods of college football. Until then, it would be wise for the fans to exercise a wee bit of patience...... but, whoever said CFB fans had any patience?
Had Mauck not gone down to injury in 2002, LSU might be looking at a matching set of crystal right now.
Best sentence on this thread. Saban's head was being called for in his first two seasons as well. WILL WE EVER LEARN??? By the way, get lost Ramah.
I give Les an A for 2005, and a B for 2006. We did lose a lot on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball last year, and that had to be rebuilt. It was not Les fault our RB had serious injuries. But, we've looked confused at times this year, more than we should have. Our special teams dropped in effectiveness. The players focus was not as sharp as in recent past. Against Auburn we kept running when it obviously was not working and didn't come out and throw it, when it worked very well late in the game. We didn't give Charles Scott a chance against Auburn, and I think he could have helped. Alley and Justin were not making it go. The players obviously have to take responsibility for some of the problems this year also. The coaches can't do a thing on the field, the players have to. Maybe we don't have NFL talent at every position, and its not fair to expect an undefeated season every year. Les has done a good job, but not a great job. There is room for him to improve. Does that mean we should fire him? Absolutely not. Where would Texas be if they fired Mack Brown after 3 or 4 years? Without a national championship and perenial top ten program; remember Texas wandered in the desert for decades in the 80's and 90's, worse than LSU in the 90's (well maybe not that bad, the 90's were terrible for us). Les has recruited very well, IMO. I always heard here in Tex. that Les was a good recruiter, especially from A&M buddies who lost prized recruits from Texas to Les up at OSU. If he can recruit and build and keep a top flight coaching staff, we should do well.
Saban's head was being called for on here by several people in '04, fresh off the NC. Remember FightinTiger? :hihi:
I'm think you're kidding, but Saban not deciding was not the problem in 04. We did not have an average or above SEC QB on the team, period. We had to play with what we had and take the consequences. We had a good year, given the players we had on hand. Sometimes you just don't have ANY great options.
