I was there as well, and I recall seeing a few other guys NOT having any problems running, especially in the second half. I was shocked at how well the field drained. The ones I felt sorry for was the alumni band at halftime.
But even if they trade him, he's still going to be the first pick, only way he is NOT the first pick is if Oakland chooses someone else.
I agree with an earlier post that the expectations are a bit too hyped up. Chris Leek was also highly rated when recruited, and we all know how he performs in game situation:yelwink2: . JR was also highly rated; but it took him a few years to finally mature to his present level. With RP, all the athletic tools are there; it is a matter of HOW he is able to put them to use on the field in game situations on the college level, and being able to read and react to defensive pressures, etc. We have seen too little of RP to make any valid judgements. It is too early to tell, but I am hopeful. We better start giving him a lot of playing time for him to grow.
What kind of shape does RP stay in? thats my question. He seems kinda fat in the face... wonder if he is carrying too much weight and is slowing down...
Welcome to the difference between high school and major college football. Seriously though, watching RP run and throw against our old alma mater, South Lafourche High School (who last had a significant contributor to the LSU program was Nicky Savoie and Ryan Thomassie), is not the same as watching RP compete against an opponent that is full of talent.
Flynn played appeared in 7 games last season, throwing 20 times, completing 12 of them for 2 TD's. Now, that's not a "lot of playing time", but when you consider that there still were running plays thrown in there, it is decent minimal amount of playing time if you're talking about brining along a young QB. Barring an injury that would sideline Flynn for an extended period of time (which would be BAD for our chances of making another BCS run--to lose your only experienced QB-- ), RP can expect to get playing time against: MTSU Tulane La Tech and possibly: Miss St Kentucky That's pretty much on par with what Flynn did in a backup role this past season (and one of Flynn's appearances was 2 plays vs Tenn. when JaMarcus got hurt). I also failed to include Ole Miss as a possibility, because over the past few years, the game against Ole Miss looked like a cake-walk on paper, but the Rebs have showed up ready to play all too often....So I can't say they are a "sure blow-out".
