my whole thing, is i don't expect to be SEC champs every year, or get to Atlanta every year. This is the best conference in the nation from top to bottom, lots of history and tradition with these schools, and everyone knows that rivalry games in the SEC throw rankings out of the window. That being said, what i expect is to compete for the SEC West every year, we were a couple of plays away from the SEC West this season, so this was a good season. I don't think Miles did himself any favors by losing the way he lost to Ole Miss. The close SEC games do not bother me, its the SEC, we aren't going to blow out Mississippi State every year. We are LSU, and we are going to get everyone's best shot. Its alot harder to get your team up for Vandy, than it is to get your team up to play LSU. This was a good season, and it can be capped off by a good win against a great traditional team and coach.
I agree, so there is definately still hope, no reason to call for Mile's head. ON Paper you are right, but if you actually watched the games..... different story. Coaching errors, lack of discipline.
that kind of stuff has been happening since Miles started here, it was bound to come back and bite us on the ass sooner or later. Miles is not above scrutiny, no coach is. This season stings because we were right there, and it sucks knowing that other than 1 game we probably should have won them all. I just hope Miles is a guy who wants to get better as a coach just like he talks about his team getting better as a unit. Miles has a lot of improving to do also, but the things he needs to work on are fixable. Everything wrong with this team is fixable, and i am very excited about next season.
I agree 100% It's up to Miles at this point, he can make or break his own hot seat. I think if we have the SAME record next year as this year BUT the wins and the offense look good, all will be forgiven. but Im not excited about next season YET. this one isnt over yet. I will get excited after the bowl game.
I thought Florida was outschemed and unprepared...and they looked unfocused and sloppy. They made many of the same mistakes people have pointed out as proof that CLM is a bad coach. They were outplayed too, but that does not negate their overall lack of preparedness. For the record, I think Saban is a better coach than CUM, but not by much. I also think that that no coach is perfect, and even very good coaches and very good teams loaded with talent have very bad days (see Bama against Utah last year). I think that Bama just showed that no team in the SEC will permanently 'own' it, that each program will have cycles of ups and downs. It would not surprise me at all if Bama has a few years of 'ups' followed by a few years of downs...or if CLM has LSU's program on the upswing again very soon...though I hardly feel that this year, when compared to last and when looked at in the context of how crappy the majority of ranked teams looked this year, can be considered a 'down' year. Edited to add: I totally agree with what LaSalle said. Everything that's wrong is fixable, and I don't think it's beyond CLM to fix them. And I remain excited about BOTH the bowl game and next season.
Yes, I love how Urban Meyer and his band of Gainsville Gators were outdone in every facet of that game on Saturday, and yet, folks here want to give CUM a pass, while they scrutinize every aspect of Miles' gameplanning, demeanor, etc. How about Mack Brown getting schooled by Nebraska? Does Nebraska have a statistically better offense than ours? It was the most anemic thing I've ever seen, including some high schools I've seen play. Also, to those mentioning how we should at least compete for the SECW title every year. Newsflash: We have every year except '08 under Miles. In his five years, we've gone to the game twice and been thick in the hunt in '06 and '09. Realistically, before this season, very few on this board expected us to win the SECW, much less the SEC or the MNC. We were hoping to have a 2 or 3 loss season. That looks like what we'll have. And as for Miles' monumental brainfart @ OM...how badly would Brown and McCoy have been bashed if that ONE second hadn't been put back on the clock Saturday night? You think it sucked to lose to OM that way? What if we'd lost our shot at a national title that way? I guess most of us are too close to LSU emotionally to step back and see when other coaches get outcoached. Our coach has also outcoached. And look for him to do it again on January 1. Wait...a January 1 bowl game with OUR terrible team and awful coaching? How'd that happen?
Come on now, you know the team won on talent despite Miles. He has only gotten this team to a Jan 1 bowl because he is the luckiest coach in college football. Haven't you been paying attention?
But, wait...I thought his luck had finally run out? Which is it? Let's keep our stories straight. And, of course, he only won because he was playing with Saban's talent. It makes CUM's feat with his own talent even more astonishing on Saturday because I thought his was the only genius that could match Saban's.
