It doesn't matter if the players knew or not. It certainly would be interesting to hear their thoughts on it now though. Name me some other coaches who would make such a trip. I am waiting patiently.
Have to agree with COT on this. Do you have anything to back this up on instead of saying it is obvious. If it is obvious, explain why and don't back out. A lot of members on this board played football..including myself in HS. I know several that did play football at LSU....
I agree that it would be interesting to hear the players thoughts. I don't know if any other coaches would make the trip because I don't know of any other coach that has been put in a similar position. I personally don't feel that the trip resulted in any harm to game day preparations but I certainly understand and respect your point of view that it did.
Not that you are, but don't read into my comments as me thinking him making the trip effected the outcome of the game. I do not know if it did or not. However, I would like to see him solely focused on the game to be played. THAT is the best way for him to be pro-active in attaining the best possible bowl game for his seniors/team. The mere fact that the staff took Thursday night off is surprising to me. Just think, with a few more hours of game planning on Thursday we could have seen a play that involved Flynn at qb with Russel at rb. Flynn would lead the option to the outside and pitch it off to Russell at the last second. From that point, Russell would use his breakaway speed to rumble on down the field for a touchdown! Ok, obviously I am showing some humor. Just want ya to know I am not downplaying your thoughts and taking things too seriously. :thumb:
If Jimbo leaves you're going to have come up with better plays than the one you described if you want Skip to give you serious consideration for the OC position.
Ok, I thought it was obvious, but here goes. Unless I'm misunderstanding what COT is saying, I think it's ridiculous to think players chatting with family and friends or surfing the internet is a bigger distraction than their HC making a trip to Dallas ahead of the SECCG to make his plea for a concession bowl. First of all, when your sequestered in a hotel room, that's what you do. Visit with family, play video games, or surf the internet. Second of all, both teams were more than likely doing this, not just LSU and you certainly didn't see Mark Richt lobbying for an "in case we lose" game 2 days before the SEC championship. That was my point.
I think this decision was plain stupid by miles. Regardless of wether this was disclosed to the team, the action instills a defeatist attitude into the program. there's no foresight invloved because if it were necessary, it's the job of the AD to lobby for bowls, seedings, etc.. miles needs to focus 100% on the peach bowl, exams, recruiting and nothing else. as saban would say, the rest is clutter.
I heard a caller on the radio bring up an interesting point... Do you think Miles is in a position/standing where he is able to tell Skip "No" when asked to make this trip? The caller said Miles likely had no choice. Any thoughts?
That's a possibility I hadn't considered. Nick would have told Skip to stick it, I'm not sure Les would.
I absolutely think that Miles could say 'No'. Any action that Skip could take against Miles would look very bad. Now would Les???
