With all the talk about LSU getting screwed into the Indy Bowl, Les was trying to politic his way into a better Bowl. He said he owed it to the 21 seniors. He's looking out for his players. Quit trying to find a negative in everything he does.
My first thought was, if I was a Cotton Bowl rep and Miles showed up two nights before a "game for all the marbles", I'd wonder "What the hell is he doing here?" What could he possibly add to what an AD would say?
I'll flat out say that this was a terrible move on the part of Coach Miles. Looking out for his seniors by trying to guarantee they play in a quality bowl no matter what? BS! That trip did nothing more than send the wrong message to those seniors he admires so much. He should have been 100% focused on the upcoming game. If he is not, then how can he expect his players to be. It is the job of the AD and SID to go and make a case for the team for bowl games. It was his "night off"? Two nights before the conference championship game and he is taking a night off? I know of a few coaches that would be working well beyond midnight planning and preparing for the game. A coach with the right mindset going into a championship game does not take a night off two days before the game. I wonder what his seniors think of his trip? We will never know but it certainly is an interesting question to pnder.
Just seems like on a week when you're getting ready for the SECCG you wouldn't take your day off and you wouldn't go to Dallas. I'm not bashing the guy, he's the coach and maybe he felt it was necessary??
Not sure why this trip gets to some, I see it as covering all the bases since it was almost common knowledge that Alabama was going to Cotton if everything would have worked as scheduled. However, with only a slight difference in payout and playing in a dome versus outside in one of the worst stadiums in this country (Cotton Bowl) with the weather that often accompanies the game, maybe we got a good deal. How many times has the Peach Bowl had 2 top ten teams?LSU!
I understand covering bases, but the Bama coach wasn't having a Championship game in 2 days. I love the match up we have in Miami & think it's gonna be a good game...just can't help but wonder how his trip was perceived by the team, that's all.
What was he supposed to be working on? Friday was a travel day and Saturday game day. Shouldn't game preparations have been finished by then?
