"when we played bad under Saban you could just hear it in his voice....it killed him, ate at him" I think you agree, not disagree. I did'nt say a loss I said play bad. I think he is a good coach, not a great coach by any stretch. But hell, I've been wrong before, just ask my wife.
As Jimmy Ott put it, there doesn't appear to be anyone less capable of handling the pressure than him. I think what this town needs is a firey coach that's not afraid to tell it like it is (within the confines of coach-speak, of course). Les is too tentative and often seems too content to just be wherever he is (in terms of football games, etc.), rather than constantly striving for excellence.
I understand this is just your opinion, but I'm gonna respond anyway... I think this attitude is a problem, not just for LSU but for all programs after a successful coach leaves. People feel like someone coming in doing things differently is bad, because the old way obviously worked. Well, just look at what that attitude does to programs... I don't care what our coach's style is, as long as it includes keeping an elite program, with great recruiting & lots of wins - and limited off the field issues.
I wouldn't want to get mine involved. She would destroy what little credibility I have left. As far as Miles and his coaching, I'm waiting until this time next year to pass judgement. Saban was/is a very good coach. No one can deny that. I just didn't like him as a person and I believe some of the players didn't either. Now, Miles, I like as a person and believe it's too soon to judge his coaching. I would hate to see him leave this year, not that he is going to, just because of what it would do to recruiting and player retention. It would be a very bad thing for the program, whether he is a good coach or not.
If we keep having 10 win seasons, then great...all good. We are in a situation where we have no choice but to wait and see, period. The problem is this, what if we have 7 wins next year, and the next? Not bad, but not great. So for those of us that are of the OPINION, that he is not a great coach and are worried about the future, then it would not be so bad for him to leave on his own. By the way, if he did leave on his own, then it answers the question, and he is admitting he is not the right coach for LSU, and he could not handle the pressure. That would certainly take guts as well.
I don't think Les is stupid enough to pull a Petrino and interview for every job that is available every year. However, I do think it is possible that he goes to CU, stranger things have happened. It is a little odd to me that a HC's name is mentioned who has only been at a top program for one year and had a 10 win season. What makes CU think that their program and board could coerce Les from a top program with NC implications to CU that can't compete with the Big 12 south? That there makes me very suspicious. If Les does interview for it, that means he already has it. He's not dumb enough to interview if it is not assured. Although, if he goes, good riddance, LSU could possibly upgrade with the likes of Norm Chow out there. I don't want Miles to leave b/c that will hurt the program and it will hurt us being able to hire good coaches if a coach gives up a 10 win season and a load of talent to go coach at CU. That makes LSU look bad.
We couldn't get an Indian guy elected gov. What makes anyone think that we could get an Oriental guy in an even higher position?
He (Miles) should take a hard look at the mess Petrino was in with Louisville when he didn't imediately take his name out of the running.... Sure, Petrino had other incounters with meetings and interviews before the LSU job came open, but still, the same principles apply...
