He traveled to the Sugarbowl when LSU beat Illinois...at least that's what I've heard. They had to heavily wrap his trailer because of the cold weather. Also, Mike got a fancy custom-built trailer in the mid-90's to replace the old one. I say Mike should be there...this is a BIG game (my apologies to Coach Saban).
Here's the story on Mike from lsusports.net: The Tiger mascot stopped traveling with the LSU team in 1970 when his cage overturned on Airline Highway in an accident en route to a game. Mike IV traveled four times in recent years, though, as he appeared at a Mardi Gras parade in 1984, the 1985 Sugar Bowl and LSU's basketball games in the Superdome. Mike V made his first road trip in December 1991 to the Louisiana Superdome to witness LSU and Shaquille O'Neal defeat Texas, 84-83. They definately should bring him to the national championship game IMO. I'd rather see Mike than this goon:
no one knows what the heck a "Sooner" is...maybe it's a guy with a $exual dysfunction? I think a sooner is one of the original settlers of Oklahoma. You know, after they took it back from the indians because it wasn't quite as worthless as originally thought. I hear they make good tiger food as well.
Mike Mike was at the 2001 Sugarbowl game against Illinois. I was there and saw him in his cage on the field before the game. Not sure when that story was written but it is not accurate if it was done recently. I hope they allow him to come again. It was nice for the fans and team to have him there in 2001 and he should be allowed to come again this year also.
Mike V is not a young tiger anymore. I know that age was a factor when some previous Mikes were considered to be taken on the road.
Mike at Bowl Games Mike needs to be there. I guess the Sugar Bowl doesn't want Jason White to end up like Roy. I watched a replay of the 83 Orange Bowl on ESPN Classic recently. There, we had a tiger on a leash! I've never seen Mike out of his cage, and since he isn't trained I don't expect to. But if we had a replacement Tigers there, that's probably why we lost the game. ;-) GEAUX TIGERS
I don't want Mike to be trained! I like him to be dangerous. The other mascots that are out of a cage sort of look pathetic and not intimidating (i.e. Bevo, the Georgia dog, etc.) Our mascot can literally kill and eat everyone else's. That's what is LSU is all about.
Yeah, that's it. Didn't one of the first posts state that Mike was getting a little lotion for his paws. That's a real man-eater. Just remember, when courting the lady tigers, be sure you have soft paws...that's real important to those lady tigers.
laugh, but if he didn't have care like that now, we wouldn't even be considering a Mike VI, PETA would be all over us. Yes he was there in 2001, but left shortly after the game started due to weather and they didn't want to get stuck in NO for the next day, it was a good choice cause the interstate was closed for half the day the next day!
The handler told us that the surface in his cage is very abrasive on his paws. In the colder months, his paws react just like human skin in that they get dry and cracked. He also told us that the new habitat that is being designed will have a natural dirt surface and will not cause such problems. I don't know about any other LSU fan, but I think Mike deserves care for his paws. Your response makes me wonder if you care about our beloved mascot.
